    Amazing! I am an artist. When I build my home, I will install venetian plaster (lime). The walls will all be of lime plaster to begin with. I can hardly wait to get started! Thick, substantial walls with luscious lime plaster, focal walls of venetian plaster to show off my artwork. They are also waterproof so the bathrooms and kitchen will be a must. I hate water damage and mold!

    Once waxed, is the surface repairable without fuss, or does the wax need to be stripped...and is that possible? I'd sure like to find a slightly elastomeric version of the plaster products!

    Absolutely love it. My question is, how does it react to wood heat? Does extra warmth, let's say I do my celling, affect the wax? Also could the wax absorb small amounts of wood smoke over a period of time. Just curious how set the wax is? Could the wax lose its luster or soften with the added warmth?

  • @RonaldLayman

    @RonaldLayman

    4 жыл бұрын

    D. Montana the heat won’t hurt the wax meaning melt it. It won’t loose its sheen but it could discolor from any soot from Accumulation overtime just like any other painted surface. But if that does happen you can see if we take a magic eraser and wipe it down it that we’re to happen.

    Your preferred source (at last update) was Vasari Plaster and Stucco, LLC, and I'm looking at their Amazon offerings. Wet mixes are prohibitively expensive to ship here, but they've got two dry bag-mixes. Are those functionally equivalent to the coarse/fine grades of premixed materials you would use, typically? (One is "lime plaster with coarse marble aggregate - medium to heavy texture," and the other is "lime plaster with marble powder smooth texture," so they seem approximately right.) What say you? I'm guessing I'd be adding my own pigment to those two, unlike the premixed merlot you were working with, for example, yes? Also, the 'micro primer' link has gone dark (and trowel link has gone...weird) but I'm not sure what the micro-primer was used for anyway. Did you mention it? Also curious about the pricey trowels. Would a single all-purpose trowel really get so scratched from use on all grades of aggregate as to cause problems with finer-finishing steps, eg burnishing?

  • @TimKollat

    @TimKollat

    3 жыл бұрын

    Don't know if you figured it out yet but you can use one trowel for everything. Just make sure when doing finish coats and burnishing that your trowel has no nicks in it. Sharpen trowel with fine file or sandpaper before using for finish. Or just have a dedicated finish trowel you keep maintained. Just so you know, you can also make your own lime plaster if you re having a hard time sourcing it...but if you can, buying it from a supplier is the way to go

  • @davids1681

    @davids1681

    @@TimKollat Thanks for that. I ended up thinking I might well end up with a lot of pricey experimental materials lying around and went instead with a sorta ghetto-faux method of getting a different look (white mod thinset burnished super thin, then ragged) that took forever, but used only common materials. I do hope to return to doing something like this in a more worthy project, so it's good to know about the trowel-tooling issues. And during that experiment, my shiny stainless pool-trowel did indeed leave dark residue, so if I'd meant to use it as a show-through color, I'd have been screwed. I wouldn't do that method again...too fussy, though it got me a nice subtle texture as a base.
