Dayana Herrera she was very absent in meredith’s life when she was young and left Thatcher because she loved someone else. She is cold because she didn’t give Meredith the attention she needed and Thatcher was never there.

The hug after Mer said “Mommy”🥺😩🫂

When she yelled at Mer at the hospital, I wanted nothing more than to just hug Mer. And then the last hug…I almost cried. Mer deserved so much better than what she got.

@@tatjanaraimann4520 The one where she first comes in with Alzheimer's and Mer hides behind the wall and then she hides in the locker room and George is assigned to take care of Ellis while Mer's on Scut.

Ellis was a sorry excuse of a mother. It wasn’t that she put her career before her family. She put a damn man before her family. Richard mattered more to her that Meredith.

I can see that Ellis loves Mer in her own twisted way, but she hurt her too much🥺

If she had been faithful to Thatcher he would have stayed. Meredith would have had at least one loving and attentive parent. Of course if that happened there would be no Lexie.

​@@shannonclark8313 That wasn't until Susan died. Susan was the one who encouraged him to reconnect with Meredith. Remember when he needed a liver? Lexie said something along " I know you didn't have a good dad but I had a really good dad you just happen to match his blood type." My guess is if he had a drinking problem she wouldn't have referred to him as a really good dad. Other people might have looked passed it but a not someone like Lexie. There are plenty of people who drink responsibly for years then a trauma happens. Suddenly they have a void to fill and don't know how to cope.

@@doody244 I feel like Thatcher definitely didn’t start heavily drinking until Susan died especially considering she died from the hiccups it was so unexpected so drinking became his way of dealing with things, plus Susan doesn’t seem like the type to stay with an alcoholic , also I feel like if he was an alcoholic Lexie wouldn’t be how she is she would be a lot more like Meredith all “dark and twisty”

Just because Him and Ellis divorced doesn't mean he couldn't have tried to stay close with Mer. The truth is that Thatcher was a terrible father to Mer and that was on him not Ellis. Plenty of Fathers get divorced and stay as connected as possible. And I wonder how good of a father he really was when his daughter is upset the only solution he has is to give her an early christman gift, and bringing his daughter to her mothers work at a hospital. Also becoming an Alcholic and being a burden to your daughter makes him a terrible father to Lexi as well. Lexi lost her mother too. Thatcher really was a weak man.

I know Ellis never treated Mer well but I've always wondered if webber had left Adele and the two of them had raised her and Maggie how she would have been

She's also extremely nice in real life. I lived in LA for a few years. I went to a lot of parties, awards ( no Oscars or GG but still fun), premieres, etc. When the story of another Ellen came out last year it wasn't news to me. She's horrible to everyone in Hollywood, even VIPs.

I guess in afterlife. Remember the episode where Meredith was drowning? It implies that all ghosts Meredith saw were real. She saw her mom and Ellis told her something nice that she never told her when she was alive. Later in the show Meredith completely forgives Ellis, sympathizes with her and I think is proud to be her daughter. Ellis didn't deserve Meredith. I think such character development was unfair to Meredith from earlier seasons. Meredith became feminist, activist and cold person resembling her mother rather than staying strong, understanding, compassion AND dreamy.
