Just back from Boston, it calls up memories of my walks through the city. Powerful and eerie poem. It is as deep as the Charles River and as unpredictable. You feel her torment. Very well rendered.

What a stunning reading and presentation! The images of ruined doors, their hint of abandoned insane asylums. No feeling of, "Huh? What did that mean?" I comprehended, as if It were more accessible than ordinary language. An electrifying way to start the morning! Thank you.

Until this year, I was not a poetry reader at all, I always had difficulty understanding a lot of it. Then I got into Sexton and Plath by way of my interest in Morrissey , whom especially likes Anne Sexton and the life/death of Sylvia Plath over her work evidently. Then, I recently picked up Alix Strauss' compelling book on deaths of the famous called Death Becomes Them. Now I can't get enough of Sexton and Plath and can't believe what all I had been missing out on. Endlessly fascinating..

I walk in a yellow dress and a white pocketbook stuffed with cigarettes, enough pills, my wallet, my keys, and being twenty-eight, or is it forty-five? I walk. I walk. Breathtaking poem, so beautiful, so obscure, so..everything!! Feeling inside, in the deepths, her words. Anne is with no doubt my favourite poet ♡ Thank you for have made such a nice video, love the images too!! :)

You did an amazing job with this poem. The imagery you chose was perfect and powerful. As I've told you before, I am not a huge fan of hearing people read poetry because so few do a good job (not saying I'm any expert, just that I dislike the insincerity, affectation, or cluelessness I often hear in their voices). You, on the other hand, are a true master. And this is a compliment I never give out unless I truly mean it. So, for what it's worth, you have it, wrapped and bowed.

One word: Masterpiece. What a masterpiece you shared with us. Thank you ever so much. I feel her pain, and I am ever so much more thankful that I find mercy, each and every time I seek it, (to borrow from Peter Gabriel,) "...in my Daddy's arms..." I can scarcely fathom the chasm that will be left in my world when he is gone, and my heart hurts for Anne's unbearable, immeasurable, and irreplaceable loss. I'm thankful for finding Mercy Street, and I grieve the fact that she never found it. Perhaps she would have lived to a ripe old age, had she found it. We'll never know, but we can be ever more thankful because of her eloquence that she committed to a page before she left us to find her Daddy.

Actually, I think I probably furnish this old house...almost everything, in fact.. with things made a hundred or more years ago...in order to maintain my connection with the past. The past is all long gone though, isn't it....as will I be, someday.

Oh my, of course I think we can all relate! I can't count the number of times in life where I struggled and always felt like I had the goal in mind but had a few short comings. Well done, I think your style definitely reflects the struggle that we go through in our day to day life. I could just close my eyes and listen to you as you are reading it and it is as though I know the exact steps you are going through. Thanks for sharing!!!

@jasperanklesighs Thanks for your comment..but I do not find anything large and sloppy in this poem. It is tight and intense in the extreme. And what is it going to attack? It is remorse poem. i have to suggest...you just might not have ' got it.' Maybe listen to the words...?

Thanks..Well...I often wonder what A.S. would have thought of my interpretation. For sure she would know it was heartfelt...other than that , I cannot say...She once said her husband disliked her 'poetry' voice...but that she thought everyone effected a 'voice' for poetry. This is mine..but I have to be careful not to become too stylised.

This IS a perfect reading. If you read it again, you might produce another perfect reading with different emphases and lilts of the voice. You put pain and distance in your voice, which works with with this poem, as it would with so many of her poems. Did you shoot and edit the video footage yourself? It works well.

This is a fine reading and a powerful video. I wonder what Sexton would think of the mood you created? (Don't get me wrong- I'm a believer that the artist's "original intent" is not completely sacrosanct, so I love it, even if someone else argues she'd hate it.) But I mean that I really wonder what she;d think of it, just from curiosity... Anyway- great job- 5 *s!!!
