One of the best instructional and most thorough videos I have seen. It really stands out in terms of detailed explanation, calm expression, and camera work, considering how tight and cluttered the space was for some of the hoses and attachment clips. Great work.

Small tip: you really don't need to take the throttle cables apart unless you want to get your throttle body off completely and onto your workbench. You can just unbolt the throttle body from the upper intake with the cables still attached and lay it off to the side. It will still be accessible for cleaning and will have saved you a small step.

Thank you for this very informative video, it helps to have a long drawn out step by step video especially when you have a mercury sable. Can not really find videos on that car and my daughter loves her car because its like her grandma's. So we work on it ourselves because we can't afford a mechanic! This video helps to not be intimidated with knowing what its gonna take to change the back plugs and wires. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I told my daughter we need to start making videos for a mercury sable so if anyone else has the same car its easy to find on youtube.

Thanks for this video. BTW, the plenum bolts are 8 foot pounds. I had a heckuva time reconnecting that gas cable to the throttle. I loosened the throttle body and from there it was a cinch.

Nice video Alan. Very informative. I have the 2004 dohc which is slightly different than yours and yes, it is a pain to change rear plugs. The only thing I might add is why remove the upper intake plenum bolts? They are designed to be retained in the plenum, not removed, hence the difficulty in removing them! Anyone doing this job, just leave them in!

Thank you so much for this. I was able to change my plugs yay! Discovered a lot of oil on the one plug. Might be a valve gasket. Do you have any videos on how to replace it? Single momma here trying to do this myself and the way you explained everything was very helpful. Thank you

I am glad to hear the video allowed you to successfully change the spark plugs in your car. Indeed, if you had oil where the spark plug came out the valve cover gasket is leaking. At the time I have no video on replacing the valve cover gasket; however, if the opportunity comes my way I will make a video.

Hey there. Had a question. I have a 2000 mercury sable with the same engine. Its having issues, think the repair shop hooked up something wrong. The dual hose that comes from the bottom of the egr solenoid isnt plugged into anything. Also underneath the brake booster is a hose thats running from a spicket to the back of the top intake....thats gotta be wrong right?

So I ran into an issue where the spark plug boot hold down bolt ripped out this brass looking part and now I cannot get the hold down bolt to screw into the engine. Its stuck to the boot and hold down bolt. Any help on what the part is called and any solutions would be super appreciated.

When you took the EGR off it had one gasket on the bottom. I recently replaced my EGR. I noticed one gasket also. New EGR came with two gaskets so I put one on top. It fit correctly,......no obstruction to outlet. Did I screw up? Car is running fine.

The Sable is a GS trim level. There are two engines available in these cars. Furthermore, the eighth digit of the vin will be an S if your car has the same engine.

I am not sure which part you are referring to on the car. Nevertheless, if you can accomplish doing the job without the deep socket is reasonable. If not, you will know to get a deep socket.
