I love Bobbie Gentry, and these are glossy singers that are homage to the the queen.
This entire album is fantastic from start to finish.
Well, for me, just personally, Lucinda is obviously fabulous in this rendition of a classic American music piece. I love both versions, but here's the thing, ... the sounds of music do magical things to you. I know you would all agree that you know right where you were when you first heard the Beatles perform, "Hard Days Night", ... my point is, that music that captured your heart and would at the time, embeds a permanent recollection of the time you were listening to it. So ... with that being said, you could judge this performance vs the Gentry version. With me .... the Bobby Gentry version put my mind, heart, and soul, way, way, back to my youth when life was good and I had no problems at all. Music is sort of a "Time Machine", and the melodies and lyrics, along with its presentation, takes you away from the present, and you are transported back in time. What's funny, is that when you are transported, no matter how old you are, you hear a song from the past that you loved, and BAM! You are right there, back in time, playing baseball with your friends on a warm summer day in the early 60's. I Love It. Both versions are fantastic, but Bobby Gentry's version is the one that "transports" me. MUSIC - ... my own little "time machine".
Excellent tribute to one of the all time greats! Fantastic LP
Heard it on the radio. Came running to youtube to find more !!! There´s a constant nervous calm in the musical arrangement challenged by her powerful interpretation. Smashing !! Great version !!
Lucinda nailed it
Love Lucinda, love Mercury Rev! Nothing but love from me here.
Beautiful arrangement
If you don’t like it don’t listen to it! I think she does a great job and definitely is her voice no computer generating
i buy this beautiful album great cover she has the delta feeling great work mercury rev greetings from munich
Luv Lucinda
Stunning.....
I like it. she gives this classic a little piece of herself instead of trying to copy the original. Bobbie Gentry's, Ode to Billie Joe, is as potent as ever 50 years on. 200 covers and 50 million in record sales make it an important fabric in the great American songbook.
Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Earphone music. especially if you're a little high. It transports you.
Who better to do this song? Sharp as a knife.....Lucinda rocks. My my...
Una delle grandi band
This is magnificent
Ordering the CD on Monday!
Genial❤
only Lucinda.........holy fuck ...........
I will definitely buy this! Better than the original! Terrific!
I heard a spot talking about the record release on KCRW last night and I really dig the bands interpretation of this album. Nicely Done.
Instrumental reminds me of cat stevens
This is more Zeppelin than Greta Van Fleet
I always found Green Day inspirational

Yeah. Every time I see "Billie Joe" I think it has something to do with Green Day. 😏
Love Lucinda, but this cover has lost all its haunting spookiness, atmosphere and rawness, for me....
Everyone has a right to sing a song but what does this woman’s voice actually sound like. If you’re going to interpret a classic you should use your voice not computers. Listen to Bobbie Gentry singing this song. And oh, yeah she walked away from fame at he peak. One of the few. Respect.

Actually she walked away about 10 years after Ode To Billy Joe, her only real hit, when her single at the time failed to chart. She had some good years, but her career ran it's course and she knew when to give it up.

Try Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. She has range. I really enjoy this cover. Too much digital alteration annoys me but this one is just fun.
Purtroppo troppo sottovalutati
While I appreciate the homage to a wonderful song, I do not care for this cover.

I was trying to find a way to say that, but still be respectful. You've said it well, and I agree. This version to me is nothing more than the original, except it's a little overdone.
Wow, that was horrible.
I'm a fan of Lucinda's, but this is a complete waste of aural space and my time. Save your soul and buy the original instead.

oh shut up, don't be such an elitist. It's not like they butchered it or anything. Just an innocent cover version, no need to be melodramatic

One can enjoy the original AND a cover version too... I like Lucinda's interpretation of this famous song.

@@frankstnable Ha! the irony and melodrama in your response... Also, don't tell people to shut up or use the word elitest inappropriately because they don't agree with your opinion. Oh, and speaking of opinion - There's some butchering going on here.
