    I just bought a sailboat. It came with a rigid hull dinghy and this motor. Mine might be a few years older. Either way, should be a fun little workhorse to get me around the islands here in BC. Thanks for the vid and tips.

    Yes I’m aware. But to demo that the physical lanyard works and dosent stick open etc. hence why I kept pulling it

    thanks for this super informative video! I am trying to disconnect the power unit from the midsection on my motor so that I can replace my cracked driveshaft housing. But after removing the 6 bolts like the service manual said, the power unit won't budge and not loose at all. Any ideas?

    Never taken one apart that far but I have had problems before with some other small outboards where they bolt the exhaust tube underneath the powerhead and I had to remove those before the powerhead will lift off. Just a thought to check out as I never had to do that yet for this motor

    Thank you for the comment. Idk if I showed it or not but I typically for a lot of these carbs just set the idle mixture screw to 1 1/2 turns out from a seated position. Usually they run fine there and if need be just turn it in or out a 1/4 turn and you should be right where you want to be

    I have a 2001 year of this same motor. It was given to me after it had sat unused for years and years. I've got it running good but the tell-tale seems to be thermostatically controlled, HOT water will come out of it and it "pees" in sequence with a thermostat opening and closing. I've replaced everything in the cooling system (impeller/cup/gaskets/thermostat) and blown out all the lines with the lower unit off...maybe that is how they are supposed to work?

  • @outboardfinatic

    @outboardfinatic

    Жыл бұрын

    Technically no you don’t need it. It’s just an overfill tube for the carb if it were to overflood or something like that. The hose just makes it so it goes below the cowling rather on top of the engine. But tech no you do not need it for the engine to run

    If the carb floods or something while running it’s suppose to come out and go into your lower cowling. Just an overfill hose. Not sure why they honestly have 2 of them but they are both just overfill hoses

    1 1/2 turns. Start from there. Mine was 1 1/2 but you may need to slight adjust depending on your engine. If anything it’ll be either 1 3/4 turns or 1 1/4 turns. Just gonna have to listen to your engine and see what sounds better. But 1 1/2 is usually pretty money on the spot

    Noob question for ya here; What's the blue hose for? I see yours go to the front of the engine while I found mine to be hanging downwards unconnected, most likely is was going out of the hole underneath the engine. Could you enlighten this rookie mind? xD

    It’s just an overfill hose. It was blue from someone who previously owned it before me. I just left it there cus it’s fine to use since it’s just an overfill for the carb

    Hi, I have the same motor and it starts well, idle well, everything is fine except when I want to run it at full speed it dies. I was thinking at a problem of carb float height, what is your opinion ?

  • @outboardfinatic

    @outboardfinatic

    Жыл бұрын

    Some sort of fuel restriction I would presume. Could be clogged filter or yes possibly a carb. Or maybe adjust you idle mixture screw a little by giving it more gas to determine if that’s the issue

  • @outboardfinatic

    @outboardfinatic

    Жыл бұрын

    Best and quickest diagnostic to do is when it’s starts dying or struggling shoot into the carb either carb and choke cleaner or ether. If it picks up when you shoot it in then you have some sort of fuel problem

    Thanks, great vid. I have a 6hp Mariner, essentially the same engine. This year it is not idling well, cuts out and I have also ‘lost’ the low to mid range of revs, ie it drops on its own from say 1/3 revs to idle, and then cuts out after a while. Hope that makes sense. I have cleaned the carb including the main jet and nozzle. Not sure which is the pilot jet and how to clean this. Any other things to check to stop cut out on idle? Thanks
