Thanks! Totally saved me from screwing up my 4 stroke VST. I've been to school on them long ago but today is my first time to do it and your video is on a motor EXACTLY like mine. I have had fuel issues for the last 3 or 4 seasons. Mercury tech told me my problem is the fuel cooler. it acts like it is a vapor lock issue.... I think it is more than that. Starts and runs fine then when I get ready to leave a job site it doesn't want to run as if it is out of fuel. I can loosen the filter and pump cool fuel through then it usually will start up and go again. This year it didn't do that so well.... time to get serious.

You could've lifted the vst out with the cowling in place. That's why the bottom grommet tab s slotted.

Great video for sure the reason I was watching it is because I have a 2007 Mercury 40 Hp bigfoot and I started seeing fuel leaking out of what looks like a white plastic thing which also has really fine threads on the outside. Lots of stuff packed into that area but is that the overflow indicator for a stuck needle valve letting to much fuel into the housing? Any help would be very appreciated:) Thanks

I have a 40 horse Merc and fuel is coming out of the bottom carburetor at the plunger is there a rubber gasket that's in there that might be pushing fuel back out when it is pressurized

Great video, replaced alot of parts now when I pump my build I get fuel to filter starts great out fuel doesn't replenish back in fuel filter and motor stalls any ideas ?

What about the high pressure valve on top with the hose nipple? It has a screen filter

stripped out screw heads are a pet peve of mine. I always replace slotted or phillips head screws with socket head cap screws. Problem with stripping screws is solved forever.

Is there any chance that the low pressure pump can make alot of noise on and off again. Great video

My 06 60 Mercury efi is hard to start after warmed up. Cold starts fine. Almost like its losing prime. It begins to crank and dies for about 10 attempts then runs fine. I've changed primer bulb and main lines to engine as well as replace filter. What should i check next?

2017 merc 40 4 stroke, motor runs only for minates then quits, pump up fuel back into motor and will start again but runs only for a few minates. Thought it was vent on cap and replaced it but motor still won't operate properly. Any ideas ? I've replace the mechanical pump, cleaned all filters, checked electric fuel pump and all of that was ok. Can it be a pressure valve ?

We replaced the fuel pump In the VST tank but it’s now Getting excess fuel and leaking. It runs strong so it’s almost like it has too much pressure from the VST tank

Have a question. My fuel filter in the right side of the engine isn’t staying full of fuel. I pump the bulb and after a while while running the engine it empties out. Is this normal or is the pump bad? I’ve replaced primer bulb hose, water separator kit new, and checked all hoses for leaks. I also took apart and cleaned out the vst and everything was good. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Would it be possible for the pump motor to continue running when the motor is shut down? The first time it happened the only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery, What it sounds like is a pump motor running and one is not able to restart the motor, We disconnected the battery for about an hour and put the wires back on an hour later it was OK.

Great video! The only thing that can be distracting is the background music. I wish music was at a lower volume or none at all. I find it makes the difference between a really awesome video into a ugh one. Background sound has to not distract from what you’re trying to show us folks😁

How you test hight pressure pump? Can you connect it to 12volts to see if works?

You should be able to hear it. And yes, you can, but be very careful. Always set up a fire extinguisher or water hose, ahead of time. Just in case.

Can you buy the assembly and just swap it out?

John, I have the same motor. I am having an issue of the motor starving for fuel at higher rpms. The motor sat for a few years before I bought it. I cleaned the vst, replaced the high pressure pump, replaced the lift pump, swapped the fuel filter, checked my plugs. I have used two different diameter fuel hoses to two different external fuel tanks and nothing solves the issue. I know there is air in system but I can’t figure where! I suspect the vst is emptying and then sucking air at higher rpms. So why and what is the issue?? Thank you!

Snap clamps/ratchet clamps are best. Cheapest to get them on ebay.

Is there supposed to be a hose connected to the fuel pressure regulator? If so, where does it connect to?

I have a 50hp also had no hose attached I suspect it vents to atmosphere if it fails. But I was hoping to see an answer. Did you figure it out?

Should have replaced high pressure filter with that cowling off.

Bad drain seal inside the vst. Maybe a bad housing. Or maybe it's just not screwed in, all the way.

No tyler, the bottom hose on the VST is only a couple inches long. It's a service drain. But funny enough, by the time most people take it in for service, that drain is totally blocked with debris. Ergo, useless. 🤔 It's existence, is probably just some EPA thing.

On my VST leak it was my float was hung on the rubber seal that the high pressure fuel pump went into.

My problem is I have no fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I replaced the vst pump and still none. Ordered a fuel pressure regulator thinking it was stuck closed, hopefully that fixes it
