I’m just gonna say it, lord Tamto is completely wrong about uppercuts. Sure just throwing one with no set up will rarely land. But a jab, cross, lead uppercut to the body is one of the first combinations you learn in boxing. And if you successfully land this combination on someone you can later go for a jab, cross, uppercut to the chin, when they’re hands instinctively drop to defend their body. Remember kids, always vary your striking, never be predictable.

That's just boxing though. If you try to get into uppercut range and commit you'll just get kicked in the gut, if you're lucky or in the groin. Martial Arts techniques are useless in real fights. Good luck breaking guard of a guy trying to tackle you to the floor. The only useful MA in real fights is grapple sports, because most real fights just end in two people on the floor grappling. Or a guy with no weapon getting decked by a guy with a weapon. It's real life not fair sports with professionals or anime, it's not pretty. Best self defensive is disengaging, best self defense training is 100 meter sprint.

@@Reac2 I'm a big mma fan, and I definitely respect the power of wrestling. If one guy knows how to grapple and the other doesn't, its a wrap. Striking arts are still definitely useful, a trained boxer or kickboxer will still beat the hell out of someone who doesn't know what they're doing. But yeah even trained fighters will tell you, in the real world where there aint a referee, running is always the safest move. Anyone could have a weapon on them or friends around the corner.
