Great video! I’m going through the same process on my 73 450SL. I have a pretty big leak from either the fuel rod or injector (still need to investigate) but this helps me understand how it all needs to be removed.

Hi, thank you for that video. I’m looking into difficulty cold starting. It helps to just turn the keys twice or three times before cranking, to make the fuel pump work. Does that mean my fuel pump is bad? Or could my injectors be leaking ? Or should I look into the cold start valve

It could be all of those things! But possibly not leaking injectors, because unless they are very bad there wouldn’t be enough time to lose the pressure after the pump has come on. Leaking injectors sometimes result in too much fuel in the cylinders, but your symptoms suggest it’s not enough fuel / or fuel pressure. Suggest trying to check the system pressure while running. If it’s normal that might point to cold start valve rather than fuel pump. Another culprit may be the fuel pressure regulator. Funnily enough I have a hard cold start on the Range Rover at the moment and am going through a similar process!

@@Altanox do you have D Jet or K Jet injection system? For D Jet I did a video on fuel pressure test.

Amazing video. Can any of you help answer a question - I just acquired a 1972 350SL (450SL). I need new injectors. This video shows Yellow, my engine has Green\Blue ish. What is the difference. I think mine are FJ119. There is so much good info online but also a lot of terrible info..... any live knowledge and experience would be great.

Glad that you liked the video! I found this series of articles very useful for D Jet generally, mentions different colours - jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/injector I think Mercedes should be able to confirm OEM part numbers for car.

Thanks for the video. Out of interest why did you not also replace the pipe between the injector and the fuel rail? I am about to do mine as they are very hard and brittle and look viuilnerable but it doesn’t look as easy to do those pieces?

I could have changed the pipes, maybe I should have. But they actually seemed in good condition, all clamps good and no perishing on the rubber. It shouldn’t be difficult to do, just use the correct clamps and quality rubber.

Sorry another question. Did those seals go straight into the metal manifold, or was there a plastic liner in the manifold that they went into?

  • @classiced1416

@@jonnybigpotato4263 what I refer in the video to the ‘lower seals’, ie those that go around the injectors themselves just go straight into the hole. No additional plastic other than the pintle cap on the end of the injectors themselves.

Are you sure you reinstalled the fuel lines and all wiring correctly? It sounds like maybe the injectors are not firing / fuel pressure not sufficient.
