Mercedes S600 ABC Flush DIY (With AGA Tool)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

DIY Flush of the ABC system on my W221. In this video I use the AGA Flush Tool for Mercedes ABC systems. But you can also do it the old fashion way with a 'suction' device. Just will take 5x times as long :)
This is applicable to pretty much any ABC system - if you want to flush it.
I used Febi ABC Fluid which was MB 345.0 approved. I did 8 L in total.
ABC is an excellent system and very reliable and hearty if maintained. If you're scared of ABC - don't be, just make sure you buy one thats been looked after and KEEP looking after it.
Flush the fluid at least once every 2 years or 20,000km.

great video thanks. 2 points: a) it's easier to fill by removing the dipstick and putting a funnel in than via the main cap where the tool is. You can then hold the tool and watch the level more easily. b) when the filter is first removed all the filtered debris can drop into the main tank where, as you say correctly, it will go straight into the pump. So best to vacuum it all out with an oil pump and fill with clean fluid before the flush.

Awesome, what year is your SL? That would be so cool to own! I have the special tool if you need it - they’re quite expensive new but still good to have on hand. Just remember to replace that filter and be mindful of the little orings as they like to come out with the older filter

An observation. All of the debris removed by the filter will be sitting in the inside of the filter. When the filter is removed that debris will run out into the ABC reservoir. When you start the flushing process all of that crud now sitting in the bottom of the reservoir will be drawn, unfiltered, into the system. It may be worth sucking out any residual oil, including the crud, out of the reservoir after the filter is removed and.BEFORE the flushing process is started. Ensure vaccum device does not enter the pump inlet such that tjhe prime of the pump is lost.

Good point, I guess it needs to be manually suctioned out so not to introduce crud into the system. Then refilled, then flushed? So minimum contamination gets in right?

@Matty231 To be honest, I think my approach would be, provided the oil is green and just cloudy:- Suck out the oil Change the filter Refill the reservoir Run the car for a few 100 -1000 miles until the new filter cleans up the oil (green and clear) Repeat the suck, change filter, refill above and wait till the next change is due. The fact that Merc say the system does not require service suggests there should not be an issue with the oil. It's a shame though they do not have a clue about filtration. The oil should flow from the pleated side (large surface area) to the inside. Also note, the filter is held on its seal by spring compression. When the filter becomes blocked with crud the return pressure lifts the filter off its seal hence unfiltered oil is returned to the reservoir!!!🙈🙈🙈

Great vid! Can you confirm the model # for the foxwell scanner you used? Also, were you able to use straight out the box or did you need to download any specific program for the 600? I just ordered a flush kit from FCP but want to have rodeo (pitch) capability or I'll just end up pressing the lift button next next to the map screen. Thanks in advance for your help! Again great job taking care of this beast!

Hi there thank you. Yes, mines a NT530 Model - just the generic one and then I simply installed Mercedes onto the scanner - its very simple to do and only takes 20-30 mins. So there is a one-off setup yes, but then you're good to go. That'll give you PITCH mode.

@@thatmatty231guy Excellent! Tell me, when you ended up changing the coils and later discovered it was the voltage transformer, did you lose an entire bank (i.e. 7 thru 12)? Was there anything in retrospect you think you would've done to identify the VT vs the coil pack? Thanks

Great job…you don’t have to run the pitch…you can just let it run at idle to transfer out all of the fluid. The pitch and rodeo are meant to bleed the system, when a component is replaced.

Hi there - awesome - filter part no is for 003 184 61 01. The filter is inside of the big screw cap on the abc tank. So you’ll have the little dipstick hole and then the big screw cap- it’s integrated into the screw cap. Twist the cap I think against the filter and it’ll seperate from the cap. Then you can slide the filter out. Make sure you don’t lose the little green orings in there you need to keep them in place with the new filter.

The steering system uses the small cylinder like reservoir behind the ABC tank. The ABC tank is just for the suspension only, but they both run into the same pump - so they're split systems pressurised by one pump. On my insta @reid_werk - ive got a video of the pump showing the pipes going in and out :)
