perfect..i have over 130/140 and all original except for hoses etc. water pump is orig. if try the dye but i dont see my coolant levels changing with it getting hot. yea, ill have it tested. this is now my daily. just sold my E430 = bullet proof benzo! but..yea, i watched your other video today in prep for a pump. tedious but can and will be done. like others said, thx for the AWESOME videos for s430/s500. i cant find anything for what im needing to do except forums..i need video/pics. thx man. ill comment on the other video when i get the pump. my tensioner has a star hole with a nipple in the middle so i cant use a normal socket to remove the belt. bummer hahaha Cheers!

Hi Book Gee - yes...they should be in the same location...just two bolts, one on right and one on the left side...

+Masood kuuu.. got it done quick and fast with no leaks. ran for about 20 min and was doing good around 80/82. i turned the air on and while idling and jumped up to about 95 and maybe popped 100. then it came down as i turned the heater on. i let it run and let come turn and and sit around 85..pretty normal for my var..maybe up to 90/92 max and any higher its overheating. anyway, i turned the heat off and the ac back on and it came up a bit..i idled slowly and then in small increments up to 1500 rpm and it did fine. it was about 90 and came down to about 87. noncoolant light. i really didnt feel like it worked but ill see tomorrow. thus fsrx new expansion tank hose, radiator cap, thermostat in that order. the first few were needed. the thermostat was the first real step in th8nking it could be it. i turn the ac on and the car starts to run hot. i had the ac unit installed recently as well. any ideas? water pump?

Hi Book Gee - it is hard to tell not knowing the mileage of your vehicle, its service history, or your driving habits. If you still have the original water pump, and if your mileage is nearing 90K miles or if your pump was last replaced 90K miles ago, then I would suspect your water pump is beginning to go bad. See my water pump replacement video. The temp gauge itself could be a suspect if the car is very old. You wrote about a "noncoolant light"...You could also have a radiator leak...a cracked radiator...Your radiator hoses may brittle and crack. I strongly advise you test various suspects carefully. Don't waste your money needlessly unless you are replacing old parts such as 80K plus mile radiator hoses and water pump. Radiators don't last forever but should last 150K miles on these Benzes. It all depends on driving habits too...city stop and go driving and idling for long periods with A/C running would, for example, reduce the life of various cooling system components. You can find out if there are leaks by adding a dye to the coolant and inspecting for leaks with special glasses or light. You may save money in the long run by taking your vehicle to a shop for diagnosis for around $100...even MB dealerships don't charge much more than that. You could then do the work yourself once you pinpoint the source of your heating problem. I hope this helps. Keep us updated on your progress.

If you want to replace the idler puller and tension pulley while doing this is it necessary to remove the fan shroud. If so, how is it removed?

Hi John - no need to remove the fan shroud on an S500 or S430. There is plenty of room to replace the idler and tension pulleys.

Hey, just tried this on my 2001 s500, after changing the thermostat according to the video the car wont start now. I'm pretty sure I've got the belt on correctly, is there anything else you think I could have messed up?

Hello, as you may know, the thermostat has nothing to do with the starting system of these cars. Does the engine crank at all?

I replaced the thermostat because it overheated and coincidentally my battery died at the same time i changed the coolant! But, even after this the engine is operating hot. Have I done something wrong? I see a lot about bleeding air out of the system. My coolant light was on before the fix and turned off after the fix, but im still not getting hot air, did I miss a step about bleeding this system?@@masood-tv

You don't have to bleed these cars. As long as you have a 50/50 mixture in the system, your problem is elsewhere...

@masood-tv I've had this car for two years and it's like every 6 months something else breaks that i have to pay a mechanic 1000 dollars to replace.

@A.B.III. these cars are either for the rich or those who will do their own repairs. Nowadays, with internet and a little investment in the right tools, one can fix pretty much anything just for the cost of parts. And, parts are a lot cheaper if you shop online.
