Mercedes R107 faulty cold start injector causes no end of problems! 450sl, 280sl, 350sl and 380sl
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is a detailed video showing how to test and clean a Bosch cold start injector or cold start valve. At the end of the video we cut open a Bosch cold start injector injectors to see exactly how it works and speculate as to why this one might have failed. A faulty cold start injector can lead to:
1. Hard start or no start
2. Rough idle
3. Starting then stalling
4. Excessively rich mixture
5. Back firing and smoke
6. Poor running at low speeds

Another great comment - thanks. Mike (back in not so sunny England)
Thx for your video ! Very interesting. I never suspected a cold start injector to leak and create a too rich mixture😬

yes - caught me by surprise when I saw that injector spraying fuel with no power to the terminals. We live and learn!. Mike
I very much enjoyed watching this video Mike ❤

Thanks - I very much enjoyed a month of sun out in Australia, but now it is back to work with the job of getting that red 280SL running. You must be getting pretty close to starting up your 560SL? Mike
My '85 380SL recently had high idle at 2000RPM.. So instead of replacing the ICV, my mechanic made the ICV manual adjustment. It worked but he charged me $550 for the service.

It is good that you got the high idle on your car fixed...but is there a reason he didn't just replace the icv? Mike

@@MikesMercsandothercars He did not replace the ICV because I think he said it’s difficult to find a new unit and that the new unit is very costly. It does run better now and it seems to be more peppy when I step on the gas pedal. BTW, my turn signal flasher is not working. I checked the fuse box and the fuse seems to be good fuse. Any suggestion what it could be? Thx
My cold start sensor is bad. Luckily it is stuck in the "warm" position so I just need to hold the throttle down for a few minutes for warm up and the car drives fine. These sensors are very expensive...I was hoping for a video on how to bring a bad one back to life. A little homework for you.

Good to hear from you. Maybe I will check out the temp sensor on the parts car and do a video. Mike
Hi Mike, Thanks for posting! I might have to look into mine as I am chasing down a rich mixture issue. I have a rough idle below 700 rpm as well but no issues with hard starting. Looking them up they are over $200 for used ones. Are you going to fix or replace?

Thanks for your comment. The injector featured was from a friends early 350SL. I have him (rather generously) a replacement from my 450SL parts car. The cold start on the 280SL I am working on works just fine. What year and model is your car? Mike

It's an 83 280SL.

Do you have a fuel economy gauge on your dash dials? If so, does this sit at zero when the car is idling? If not, you may have a vacuum leak which could also account for your issues. See kzread.info/dash/bejne/p4eKxMSmn9rUhpM.html Mike
