I feel like the booing for Mone was partially driven by intercity rivalry between NY and Boston. But at the same time, isn’t heel Mone where this character has been heading since she debuted? Feels like a natural progression of the character rather than something unexpected that they need to deal with.

They can’t turn her this soon. She’s only been around 3,4 months? They’ve invested way too much into marketing her being a babyface. They shouldn’t turn her because a couple of smarks on Long Island got drunk and booed her, that’s not smart. 😂 Saraya turned heel like a month in and never recovered as a character since. Mone is being positioned as one of the main stars of that company. She needs to be a babyface.

You guys underestimate how insane cities can get about sports over here (it's why cheap sports heat always gets a reaction). They didn't start booing Mercedes until they remembered she was from Boston (a guy standing up in a Celtics jersey reminded them); that's why they started doing anti-Boston chants. And despite that, she still got her fair share of cheers. And I can't hate the Pulp Fiction/Learning Tree match because everyone (except Jericho, tbh) made it really entertaining. To me, Mox/Naito was the worst match of the night, sadly; Naito just didn't look like his heart was in it.

I DID NOT see the end of Toni Storm/Mina turning out that way. I FULLY expected Mariah May to turn on one of them. NEVER considered them all leaving together...WHICH IS BRILLIANT!!! But now, what if Toni & Mina become super close & leave Mariah out? Then, Mariah gets her revenge by winning The Owen & beating Toni Storm for the Women's title, in Wembley, at All In.

I think Mercedes needs to turn heel after this, the crowd weren't into her at all after Stephanie bashed her head into the canvas. With that said, a very fun show and it might be the best Forbidden Door event yet. Loved ZSJ/Cassidy and Swerve/Ospreay. Also push Takeshita; that blue thunder bomb was nuts Edit: we might be getting Billy Gunn/Okada, let's go!

I was in the crowd and a decent portion of the crowd turned on her after Stephanie Vacquer had her on the ropes, she really showed out and I think she was the surprise star of the night.

Red Shoes is probably the ONLY referee on the planet that can get away with pushing away Mox's hand when he flipped off Red Shoes. Mox flipped him off, and Red Shoes was like, "Get that finger out of my face, asshole." And he's, subsequently, one of the best parts of Forbidden Door for me. I pop pretty hard for Red Shoes.

Between keeping Mone off of TV for a hot minute to keeping her out of the ring for what seemed like longer, only for her to skip the line and beat Willow who the crowd absolutely loved was what turned them against her. Her attitude and swagger are a part of her character, I get that, but she's not a Babyface at all, not even in my opinion.

No. I was there. They only boo'd her because she's from Boston. They were chanting F the Celtics and F the Red Sox. That started it all. Cause we all sang her CEO entrance song. And she was getting positive reactions as the match started. Then the basketball fans started the F the Celtics chants. Once that built up, everyone turned on Mone. It didn't help that there was some dumb guy in a Celtics t-shirt sitting in the 4th row. He was standing up showing off his shirt, pushing off the crowd more and more.

@@professoreinstein6 I'm not sure that her presentation screams heel. Maybe in an old school since where it's mote black and white. But we have more and more tweeners these days. And with AEWs booking style, you may be face or heel depending on who you're fighting that week. Or who the fans side with in the story. Swerve was doing evil stuff in the feud with Hangman but was eventually booked as the face because the fans sided with him. Just for example. I think Mercedes character is very cocky, looks like money, leans into knowing her worth as a star, and those things come off as heelish cause she isn't humble. But she has yet to cheat, run from a fight, attack anyone who didn't deserve it or politic her way into opportunities. We haven't seen her actually do anything foul or wrong. So for me, it's your actions that make you a heel, not how much you brag or flaunt your success.

TK better not screw up this fued with Mercedez and Britt Baker.

A huge part of the Mercedes boos had to do with the New York/Boston sports rivalry. I would assume if you don't live in the states (in particular the east coast) it would be hard to understand. But it is widely considered the biggest rivalry in the country.

She's been getting mixed reactions since she got to aew

To be honest, the thing I'm most excited about is we're going to get Shida vs. May. I need to see those two go full throttle on each other like Shida and Hayter did.

I watched the event and I enjoyed it from start to finish. All of the matches were good but the one that truly delivered was the main event of Swerve and Ospreay which me and my brother believed was a 5 star classic, we were also happy that Britt Baker returned which my older brother predicted that she would return before we watched the event. Hopefully business begins to pick up for AEW now that Britt baker is back. I give Forbidden Door the vote of 4 out of 5 as well.

3:12..."Enough tape to hold up a bridge"😂 That, seriously, might be Pete's best line ever.

honestly, do it. AEW fans love Britt, she returns as Face and Mone goes Heel (though she was always one step away from being Heel as it was), and Mone could even join The Elite to reference continuity from that time she stood side by side with Okada in Japan.

Mercedes Mone was clearly the Heel in her feud with Willow & she absolutely crushed it. I don't know why they tried to shift her back to Babyface as if the only reason she was being booed was because of Willow's popularity. They shifted too quickly, they should've seen how the crowd reacts to her as TBS Champ in her new feud. Crowd was luke warm to her as a Face at best leading up to Forbidden Door but you saw the wheels predictably come off that & now with Britt Baker returning you have to go full on Heel Mercedes Mone now!

Goku fought Frieza in a 5 minute iron man match for the world title. Pretty good episode of SmackDown.

I'm not a Mercedes Moné fan, but the facts are that she was booed because the event was in Long Island New York and Mercedes Moné is billed from Boston. So the booing on part of the fans is more about the New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox feud and hate.

The crowd know that mercedes has been handed boat loads of cash for not much return. She's not a likeable personality and her work is just fine. I'm not surprised she was booed

Long Island is a notoriously smarky crowd. And not the good kind like the crowds overseas. And I say that as a Long Islander. Them booing at one show shouldn’t be taken as any kind of sign. Long Islanders get drunk and stupid at those shows and turn it into Bizarro Land. They’ve booed CM Punk, they’ve booed the Rock, now they booed Mercedes. It’s just an outlier, not a trend.

Good match but the finish was sloppy. The camera caught Will clearly jumping instead of it looking like Swerve lifted him up into the move. Not a fault on the wrestlers but their production team always tends to botch things like this.

Most of your review was pretty spot on though I thought the TBS championship match was better than you said for two reasons. A guy in the front rows stood up with a Celtics shirt on and the crowd turned on him chanting F the Celtics. They then cheered some very impressive moves from Stephanie and chanted This is awesome and fight forever so I think your call on the crowd turning on her is premature.

Jericho has hit some great looking Judas Effects before, just none in the past 2 years

Two things: 1. The Toni/Mina/Mariah angle fell flat for me. Was hoping that Mariah was at least interject herself into the finish or even a false finish. 2. Mone vs Vaquer was greatly underrated. Never seen Stephanie wrestle before, but that "head scissor repeated slam" thing got a huge pop out of me. I'd love to see her, ZSJ, and Titan eventually come to AEW or WWE.

Yeah Mercedes being boo’d had nothing to do with Stephanie and everything to do with American sports. Celtics just won the NBA title and New York hates Boston. Also really hope the elite get some edge with hanger coming back because their gimmick isn’t doing anything for me outside of okada.

I was there, while there was definitely a lot of nyers trashing boston by cursing out sports teams and by extension mone, people were also cheering for Stephanie vaquer which was honestly really cool to see. You could argue that it’s just because she was opposite to mone that’s why people were cheering for her. But I think that the crowd were really for vaquer that night seeing that she could go toe-to-toe with mone (I personally think vaquer is the better wrestler) and wanting her to retain because of her skill. Overall tho that was one of the best womens matches I’ve ever seen and hopefully they can both run it back again

You’re really forgetting the part about Mercedes being from Boston in the midst of NY sports fans. She became a heel bc ny sports fans are petty AND bc Vaquer was so impressive. Her moves were some of the best female wrestlers have done in aew her style fits the fandom’s preferences. Also Mercedes has been positioned as a tweener with how obnoxious the CEO song is, her treatment of willow. She’s not exactly a baby face at all. The grey area lives in aew. Look at ospreay, he was presented as a heel primarily until he returned but still has the heel alignments with Callis. They do this in a lot of storylines and characters slowly change or progress over time one way or another. Mercedes will emerge as a heel as they’re hinting to it the entire time: just watch the product closely

I have to give the benefit of the doubt that being English y’all don’t understand the animosity between New York and Boston, but that’s the story here, as well as the crowd genuinely falling in love with Vaquer. Anyway, Moné is a tweener if she isn’t a full heel, so what narrative are we pushing here? It feels like a “the booking is falling apart” assessment, but beloved baby face has never felt like her direction.

I was there and can give some context on Mercedes boos. Three reasons why Mercedes got booed. First off they were CEO chants through the majority of the match. Very small Stephanie chants towards the floor, but Stephanie wrestled her but off and a crowd appreciated it. 1. Match fatigue/come down 2. The slow start 3. Because it's freaking New York and F Boston. It was less about Mone and more circumstance. Honestly feel if the match was on a different spot it would have got a different reaction but F Celtics and Red Sox was some of the loudest chants outside the main even. My section was pro CEO. But when you go NY vs Boston its over. Also Cass is really freaking tall ... Cant teach that...

Ppv was one of the best ppvs by far 👍

Shingo vs Bryan made me a very happy. Swerve vs Ospreay left me wanting more. Like put them in a cage with the point of it being no outside interference. Can see them take it to that next level when forced to. I enjoyed the story beats and how this encounter went I don’t always want no interference but for the rematch? About the Mone thing .the show was in New York...it's a New York crowd, My friends were there and the fans started cheering for the Mets ( which my Friends are huge Met fans so that popped them) She is billed from Boston and that is a rivalry. that is why they booed her. It's got nothing to do with cool down or whatever Pete said in the video. My friends kept sending video clips the crowd was hot all night even with Y2J match. Wish I was there with them the whole show was a blast

I was thinking before the match started that the crowd was might turn because of the Boston connection so I started cackling when they were getting into it and the guy with the Boston Celtics shirt stood up

Several people have mentioned the Mone boos. I just want to reiterate, I was there, itbwas an isolated incident due to the Boston v NY sports feuds in basketball and baseball. BUT... I have to correct something else Pete said. We were hot for this match. People cheered for Stephanie as much as they boo'd Mone. She was over in the building. Don't know if it translated on TV though.

They always skip weekend shows on ppv weeks, next week won’t have smackdown or collision either. Probably MITB or NXT if they do MITB Sunday review

Not gonna lie was already checking airfare to Tokyo and room prices for Tokyo Dome hotel. Wrestle Kingdom is a bucket list for me and Wrestle Dynasty is gonna be a banger show. That will be an awesome 1-2 punch that weekend.

Mone is from Boston: New York and Boston never get along. Same deal with Toronto and Montreal (or, rather, Toronto and the rest of Canada). I'd imagine the next time Mone shows up in New York for AEW (something like Grand Slam), she'll appear wearing a Boston Celtics jersey. That'll get extra heat.

I would chalk Mone's reactions as your "local sports team" heat. As New Yorkers hate the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, Revolution, Celtics, and all things Boston sports. Remember Heel Punk in 2012 only got Boston to boo him by saying "they are like the Yankees"

I do and will always prefer my British wrestling reviewers to the American ones, but as an American it is funny to see them do things like downplay/underestimate the Boston-New York rivalry and (probably deliberately, if I'm honest) recognizing the Statue of Liberty cosplay but ignoring the fact that July 4th (what was that about again😉) is days away

Only 5 of the matches needed to happen (Mox match...in hindsight) This company needs to make more into their week before events to put some of these superficial matches on Dynamite and Collision and Rampage instead of the main card being close to 15 matches going 4-5 hours.

It's not an isolated incident, but not for what you think. Mercedes Mone is from Boston Mass. Boston and NYC have a big rivalry, especially in baseball. They were yelling "F*** the Red Sox" during the match. She will be always a heel in NYC. Besides that likely a face everywhere else.

The crowd literally chanted f the Celtics and f the Red Sox, it was clearly directed at Boston. Also, Mone's been a heel the whole time. There's been nothing babyface about her presentation at all, i don't see how people assumed otherwise.

The NYC crowd were booing Moné because she's from Boston. They even did a "F the Red Sox" (BOS' baseball team) chant later in the same match.

There was people rooting for mone that jumped in and joined the Celtics and Red Sox chants.

I am happy that Stephanie has others championships as well that’s how good she is She doesn’t need to have any loophole like Mercedes that’s how better Vaquer is then Mone! Because she is going to probably lose the New Japan strong women’s championship but she still should be good because of the other championships she possesses, not to mention she can move on to other projects for herself in wrestling.

I think you're wromg about the Mercedes match tbh. Work was phenomenal, and the crowd WERE into it. The boos were "your city is not my city" not actual heat. Its just an American sports thing and shows the crowd do care about mercedes and were having fun with her (she was eating it up.)
