The problem
A spring within the door lock actuator mechanism snaps causing the locking faults.
It is a common fault on these vehicles for a small spring within the door lock actuator to snap causing the symptoms noted. The original spring within the mechanism is very thinly wound and is constructed from a poor quality steel which will inevitably corrode and the spring will snap. Previously this necessitated the complete replacement of the door lock actuator unit at vast expense, the vehicle manufacture has not altered the spring design / construction over the years so even installing a complete new actuator would only be a temporary solution.
Symptoms of the fault
Door lock jumping up and down quickly, door not locking or only periodically, door lock rattles.

could this be possible on the 2007 ml320 cdi? door-lock not locking or unlocking. Or is it the actuator?
is this what causes the lock bouncing problem on my 1998 ML320? If so how do I order?
Hi guys . Do you have also a clip for w208 Clk ? Problem is it won’t lock the driver side and my inside handle is not going back to the normal position

If it's not the spring , it's the motor in the mech. This can be fixed for free with a pair of long nosed pliers

Just curios if you were successful fixing the problem using these springs. I have similar issue with my ML door locks.
