    The axle difflocks on a G-Wagon are engaged by hydraulics. AFAIK the only electronic part of the difflock system is behind the dashboard like 1,5 m over the ground. No way that water crossing could have affected it anyhow…

    The purpose of the test was to achieve different results than, say, here: Comparativa 4x4: Toyota Land Cruiser (PRADO), Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Mercedes Clase G - Diariomotor But it was found that unsuitable tires were not enough, so the locking of 3 differentials became inoperable. A safe bet…

    They are both purpose-built for off-roading. Modern G’s are luxurious and, in many ways, better at off-roading than the original G.

    Ive owned both, G63 and JKRub. On road, no comparison as G63 is a beast with class. Off pavement, there is no comparison. And when you start to mod the Jeeps, the Gwagon is left for dead. Current ride is JTGladiator Rub diesel. G63 (2017) started to rust all over, its a common issue. 2010 Rubicon has yet to show rust. Unreal.

    6:05 traction control only works in road mode. No center diff lock, 4wd hi. Also important the way Mercedes traction control works is apply gentle gas and allow time for the wheels to slip and the brakes will do there thing

    It is too, the g wagon is also a giant in the military vehicles, I just can't believe it can fail to pass that suspension articulation test and the jeep can the gwagon is way better off-road than your vedio describes, despite the jeep and gwagon being lifted, the jeep had bigger tired than the g wagon so it performed at the rocks, maybe the vedio is geared towards the jeep being a better offroader but the German monster is a well renowned offroad machine, wherever a jeep can go, a g wagon cannot fail to go too, personally the articulation in the vedio was not accurate at all, g wagons are very much capable as the jeep

    You say Sahara but there is a Sport badge on the Jeep. Either way only the Rubicon has stock sway bar disconnect feature so it's all a bit confusing

    If you really want it, you can make G class as capable as wrangler. Just most G owners are not willing to mod heavy as wrangler owners.

    You got a jeep with wayward detached and bigger wheels vs a g class with no difs, on only rocky trials? That is no fair fight. But that out the way, the jeep is a real capable machine.

    Read the owners manuel. You have a process and order to follow to turn on lockers...... on G wagon. I been in water and engaged lockers... so water does not effect lockers on G class.

    unfortunately reading manual doesn’t help the rear differential locker from water damage.

    I’ve been through far deeper water than that when I went through the tank water route trail in a 93 GD300. None of my electrics failed on the triple diff locks. Are you sure your tires were of the same rolling circumference and equally deflated? That definitely is in the manual. And what was the failed component according to your workshop “experts”? Was it driver error?

    At various points in your video you contrast the Wrangler with the G-Class by saying the Wrangler was "purpose-built" for off-road use. The G-Class was designed and built at the request of the Shah of Iran back in the 1970's for the Iranian military.

    How is this a proper comparison? The G has three locking differentials and Jeep didn’t have either front or the rear ones. You chose not to switch on any of Mercedes diff locks and then wondered why they were not engaging. Yes the G has ABS system but it doesn’t use it to lock the differentials.

    the exhaust under the rockers really makes the G not a great crawler as you will hang up on that/the boards in any kind of blue+trail action.

    It's like you want to compare a fly with a bee. The G Wagon has no comparison to a Jeep. It's just garbage compared to the Mercedes G class. The G class surpasses it in all aspects about 30 times

    you can, but not sure if it is common to have electrical issues with them after deep water crossing.

    Are you really doing a test when you can't lock 3 differentials and you found out that it's not good off-road? So bad tires weren't enough? Also, there are more objective tests, for example: Comparativa 4x4: Toyota Land Cruiser (PRADO), Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Mercedes Clase G - Diariomotor or an example when the G-klasse has offroad tires: Mercedes G class vs Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, Mitsubishi Pajero sport, OFF ROAD But the purpose of the test was to get different results... so bad tires and to be sure 3 differentials failed... and someone accidentally disabled the 4ETS traction control (as in the LR Defender) which has been in the G class for 20 years...

    It`s true, when it comes to a real off road, G-wagon is no match for Wrangler or old Defender. Waiting for a new Ineos Grenadier, hope it won`t disappoint and will be a good opponent for Wrangler, even if I think it won`t :D

    Of those vehicles, only the G wagon is used by militaries to this day. They’re all great vehicles, but the G is proven.

    @@AA-vr8ez The military version of the G Class differs significantly from the civilian G Class. The military version still has 2 star axle, an old more robust engine.

    @@crunchpunch8613well, there were some exemptions but I think we can say that between 1979 and 2018 the military and civilian G had the same frame, axles, t-case, the engines were the same or very similar… If we compare the for example the 463.323 to 461.332 then the biggest difference seems to be the front end in 460 style, drum brakes on the rear axle, very basic interior, 12/24V electrics, better water insulation and Racor as stock equipment.

    Such silly tests; two vehicles that cannot be compared at all. Two different design philodophies. Please mature. Videos like this fall in the 12yo category. I wonder what your truly in-depth knowledge and understanding of either 4x4 is. These are not SUV's but true 4x4's. A Toureg or a Cayenne is a SUV; they lack ladder frame chassis and proper 4x4 hardware.

    This video is soo BS. G-Class is only beaten by the Unimog when it comes to off-road driving. Porsche had the G-Class as a reference when designing the first Cayenne, not the Wrangler. Go figure.

    A Toyota would wipe the floor with both of these vehicles, the G-Wagon is a grossly overpriced vehicle. Here in the US G wagons are seen parked outside shopping malls and boutiques. Jeeps are poorly built vehicles that are or were fairly cheap by comparison. They are decent off-road vehicles but are simply unreliable and underpowered.

    Jeeps aren't allowed on safari here in South Africa 🇿🇦 by some operators, as they are too unreliable and breaking down deep into Kaokoland or the Kgalagadi may even prove fatal. Jeeps are boys toys for fun days near the big smoke.
