Mercedes E-Class Crash Test - Better than 5 Stars

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

2017 Mercedes E-Class Crash Test - Better than five stars
The E-Class's occupant safety, child safety, pedestrian protection and assistance systems have been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The Saloon was a particularly deserving recipient of this top rating since in the crash tests in all four categories it significantly outperformed the standard required by Euro NCAP in order to attain the top score of five stars.
Category: Result E-Class Five-star cut-off
Occupant safety: 95.00% 80.00%
Child safety: 90.00% 75.00%
Pedestrian protection: 77.00% 60.00%
Assistance systems: 62.00% 50.00%
The E-Class Saloon also achieved two Euro NCAP "Advanced" awards for PRE‑SAFE® and ATTENTION ASSIST - both awards go beyond the star rating and underline particular safety innovations.
The E-Class Saloon owes these impressive results primarily to the combination of its high-strength passenger safety cell with highly effective restraint systems and the large number of driver assistance systems on board. Active Brake Assist, for example, is a standard feature. It is able to warn the driver of impending collisions, provide support with emergency braking and, if necessary, apply the brakes autonomously. Likewise included as standard are ATTENTION ASSIST with adjustable sensitivity, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and drowsiness, and Crosswind Assist.
Other driver assistance systems are available as an option, including DRIVE PILOT, which marks a further milestone on the road to automated driving, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign Assist with wrong-way warning function. Some of these optional systems, however, have not yet been taken into consideration in the Euro NCAP assessment.
Active and passive safety are intelligently combined with the PRE-SAFE® system, which is able to recognise critical situations on the road and, where there is the threat of an accident, trigger preventive measures to protect the occupants. PRE‑SAFE® Impulse Side is available as an option for the E-Class for the first time. If it detects the immediate threat of a lateral collision, this new subsystem is able to move the driver or front passenger away from the danger zone as a preventive measure, effectively creating a virtual crumple zone for the side of the vehicle. Another new feature is the standard PRE-SAFE® Sound system. Immediately before a collision it can trigger a natural protective reflex in the ear, preparing the occupants for the noise of the accident in order to reduce potential damage to their hearing.
Mercedes-Benz takes the protection of more vulnerable road users such as children very seriously. This also applies to pedestrians and cyclists. The E-Class Saloon features an active bonnet which can be raised 80 millimetres during an impact to provide additional deformation space. In addition Active Brake Assist is not only able to recognise slow-moving, stopping or stationary vehicles but also pedestrians crossing in the danger zone in front of the vehicle and can brake autonomously to prevent a collision with a pedestrian. With features such as these, the E-Class's impressive pedestrian protection standards far exceed statutory requirements.
The E-Class Saloon's success in the Euro NCAP rating is the result of Mercedes‑Benz's holistic safety philosophy. Instead of focusing solely on rating requirements, the company uses findings from its own accident research to develop internal test standards and test criteria that go beyond what is required by law.

Plenty of wealthy people don't even drive Mercedes but drive cheaper to maximize their wealth. You can easily get a reasonably low mileage E class for around $20k. I saw a 2016 E450 coupe for $21k 31k mi, my 2012 E350 went for $15k with less than 72k mi. Don't gotta break the bank for quality. Know what you want, what it does, budget wisely and now you own a Mercedes 🤷🏽‍♂️ it is just a car in essence

During my surgical term in my practical year (last year of studying medicine in germany) we got a patient admitted to the ER. A woman, about 35-40, had a car accident, her car was hit by a train on an unguarded traintrack. It was a diesel-locomotive DB series 218 with about 30 wagons of commercial cargo attached, going at about 50 km/h at the time of impact. Her car was hit on the drivers side, is was pushed infront of the train on the track for about 30 meters before it was pushed of the tracks and went down a small hill onto grass. It did not flip. I expected the worst when I heard what was coming. The woman had absolutely NO INJURIES. Not a damn scratch on her! A small bruise where the seatbelt hold her was all. She was in a state of shock and emotionally instable, but that was clinically the worst the crash did to her. She was driving a Mercedes S Class (which of course was trashed by the train).

This is a requirement for a 5-star rating. They actually are using a scale to measure the force it takes to open the door, and there’s a max it can be in order to pass. This not only means that the structure of the car around the occupant didn’t deform (meaning that they’re less likely to have been injured by part of the car coming into the passenger cabin and hitting them), but also it means that they’re less likely to be stuck in the car so they can either self-rescue or be quickly rescued by a bystander in the event there’s a fire or the car ends up in water.

Ive owned a couple, and I drive one now. They always have a number of big ticket items before getting 70k. A big ticket item on a merc will run you 5 -10k in repairs. On a japanese car, those kind of repair bills are unheard of. Like ABC suspension is a 10k repair.... and is guaranteed to fail on some models. Things that you have never heard of fail on these cars and they are expensive to repair. I didn't say BMW is better. In fact BMW is way worse, in that they put perishable plastics in the center of the engine as seals. knowing that after 90k, the owner would have to pull out the engine -5k in labor- to replace a 20 dollar seal. These cars are best leased and not owned as Ive said. Or owned with a warranty

To finally answer this old question, if anyone is interested: It has the badge (the green one in the corner of the windscreen), because prior to his career as a crash test car it was used as a test car on public roads. So it had to be street legal and therefore needed the badge.

Hello there 💖, can we add a layer of water between impacts and parts ! Does it absorb lots of energy ? Like a person jumps from a high attitude in to a pool with 4 cm of water ?

because we considere that if you crash into something at more than 50 kmh you have less than a few percent chance to survive because the human body can't deal with so much g force even with seat belt and so on

how many mercedeses drive with their windows open these days? they all have internal climate control,... and so on. but, i doubt, it would be a big difference in this test. the shattered glass doesnt hurt that much. i know, al my windows were shattered after my head on collision...

Kevin D I assume they kept them open because of reflections. Those higspeed cameras need very bright light and the reflections could disturb them.

Driver would have smashed side window, with his head, because of misshaped airbag or non deploying side airbag. Safest car not very safe, embarrassment to watch. Safety is safety, this is just poorly working airbags in a crash.

Your head is literally an object that needs to be protected in a car crash, why wouldn't you want the side airbags to deploy? It could prevent you from hitting your head on the side window like shown in this video. Side air bags are better than nothing and could save your life even in a frontal crash...

U make a good point but that said, Mercedes have an excellent track record in safety and I myself was in a serious crash with an Audi - which I give full credit to for letting me walk away. A similar but worse crash that flipped the car. I didn't sustain any head trauma and although my leg was stuck in the footwell, I walked away after being cut out.

dude, kindly, not to fight. What im going to say may not relate exactly but still important. There are plenty of videos where Mercedes Autonomous Emergency Braking(AEB) does not perform satisfyingly(Volvo performed better). So, they do make mistakes. Afterall, instead of just asking abt peoples credentials, why not try to educate? It is sad to know if people's eagerness to learn or discuss or share of thoughts must be backed by their credential alone. There is fact and data, and then there is intelligence, questioning(instead of just knowing, accepting, following or memorize factual form) and curiosity which makes us different species on the planet. The point is just the need to understand .Chill.
