Forget SUV, which is like driving a boat in turns. This is a dream machine, tested it and LOVED IT TO PIECES. Beautiful design and very sporty lines from the sides. Reminds me of the CLS. Fantastic ride and extremely comfortable and quiet. And so much space! And it's eating mountain roads like there's no tomorrow, who needs a boat?This is it. This is my next car. Hi Thomas! Many thanks for professional review! As I understood you prefer the pre-facelift version. I've been waiting for facelift, but on the day of official release of E-Class facelift in March, I ran to the dealer shop and bought the All-Terrain 2019 MY. After watching your review I'm more confident that I did the right choice.

Great video! My family just placed an order for the E200 sedan and its coming early march next year.

Pre-facelift headlight was sharp, "agressive" like an eagle, this one is a drunken hippo. Dunno, not the best IMO.

yeah the headlamps remind me of the watery eyes of a weak character in anime or something I hope they come up with round headlamps again like the old Mercedes, but in a modern fashion with LED, kind of like how Bentley does their headlamps

I agree. It looks cartoonish. Very round. Try looking at it beside an A6 Allroad and the contrast is very stark.

Awesome review. Will need to consider this if I can find one CPO in a few years when it's time to replace my 2014 sedan.

Another great review. I have a 2019 wagon, might get a new one. It drives so well, is faster than MB says, and holds as much as many crossovers. Thomas, as I have written before, you are so knowledgeable, I want to understand every word. You have great vocabulary in English, make few grammatical mistakes, but your accent and much too rapid speech (as fast as a New Yorker like me) get in the way of your delivery and some of what you say gets lost. Please please slow down. We are not going anywhere and love your so thorough and thoughtful monologues that are a wonderful stream of consciousness, so helpful to those of us who value your opinions and observations.

and it's so bizarre how Skoda, part of the VAG, uses the same platform as VW but doesn't use the capacitive switches because they're supposed to be a budget brand.

They made one terrible misstake with the facelife,and that is removing the scroll wheel and replacing it with the touchpad. :(

Didn't know the All Terrain existed before I bought the Allroad. Imo the Mercedes looks better although the interior looks a bit tacky. Either way very nice car. Thank you for the review Thomas and crew!

My next car in 2021! After having three BMW 540xd Touring (full), it will be now the E Class 400d All Terrain.

Mercedes' latest design is boring and blend. Hoping for the next gen or facelift to be better.

Super estate ! Reasonable basically in terms of price for a premium brand. In the USA, it’s not widely seen, but I love it !

great car and review Thomas but shame about the Active Steering Assist nearly taking you into the motorway barrier (32min 13sec) - not to be trusted at all after seeing that

i'd have the allroad but the merc isnt bad eighter but overall audi has more experience on CUV's if you are not yet convinced just remove the stickers from air struts on anny mercs ...⭕⭕⭕⭕

I was curious what the acceleration numbers were since MBUSA is still not posting them on their website. 5 seconds for that big thing is really good, and makes you realize this is what AMG used to provide not that long ago. You could almost do some camping with the 2 meter + rear cargo length with the seats folded down. Just get a couple sleeping bags and you're all set!

Ich lese so oft wie sich die Mercedes Fanboys über Audi lustig gemacht haben zwecks Auspuffblenden. Karma trieft diese jetzt sehr hart, shit Happens...Ich persönlich finde es gar nicht mehr so tragisch und wenn wir in die Zukunft schauen wird es bald keine Verbrenner mehr geben!! Ich freue mich sogar schon auf diese Technologie, wir leben in der Zukunft und Elektro ist alles andere als langsam und wird auch in allen Punkten den Verbrennern voraus sein. Tolles Vid wie immer, weiter so!!

Just bought an E450S 2023. Arrives from Germany in December. I can’t wait to take it touring.

The car drives like a dream and I love how it rides and also the mileage I get with the EQ boost. But the only things I don't like on my 2022 E450 All Terrain here in the US, is the limited ground clearance (5.8" is not enough for an "All Terrain") and the capacitive touchpad (I have eventually gotten used to it). And they only get very few of them into the US, which makes finding one, off the lot, with the options you want, next to impossible, while ordering one is a several month process which does not work for me personally Great review overall.

Hello Thomas, Another great review. What would be your choice A6 Allroad, V90 CC or All Terrain? MB added E200 to AT portfolio, which makes more sense for city, but interesting to see highway performance of this engine in E Class.

I considered all three vehicles above, and went with the All Terrain. It's a classic Mercedes E-class in every way, which is a great thing. Here in the US, we only get this in E450 mode, which is an inline 6 cyl with the EQ boost.

Thomas, it’s a bit pity that you can’t test SUVs and all-terrain cars in some off-road (sand, light dirt, roads without asphalt). After all, that’s the purpose of these cars.

What are the other power options for the engine? It’s the only one? How it is to drive in the city? This needs S-class rear wheel drive!

this interior is way nicer than the current S-class, the current S-class is a step back in design, Lacks flow and fluidity. If it aint broke dont fix it!

As you explained it adjusting to different driving modes is the main value this car. Drop the kids to school in comfort mode and change to sport mode on the autobahn for fun. It is as if you have three different cars. The engine is there whenever you need it. Driving experience is very diverse and satisfying. I do love all my four Land Cruisers (75 petrol, 100 diesel, 100 petrol, 200 diesel) I had and have, but after driving this car I understand that SUVs are like trying to run on high heels. Driving an SUV in Europe seems like a big mistake to me now.

Now the question is; All-Terrain or Allroad? The Allroad is significantly better looking inside and out, similar features, and has more standard equipment. No top line sound system in the All-Terrain. But, I will probably test drive both of them.

What is an All-terrain version? Google gives ATV vehicles.

Well...a fine car but the styling is rather lumpy and very “safe”...white paintwork is not a good choice. In a better colour and with a giant purchase price discount, it will be a good car to choose but the depreciation will be dramatic. A 360D with 10,000 miles and a ŷear old for £30.000 will be a bargain!!

With MB you get a seat and three wheels. Everything else is extra.

Why they still applying steering wheel offset?🤯

The capacitive buttons on a steering wheel are a big nuisance. Of course, they are cheaper to make but this is one of the things you touch all the time and it would infuriate me, having this cheap/00' laptop/90' gaming console feeling.

Damn...the autobahn is truly where you can actually use the hp of these cars.

ECLASS Wagon design is good, but the price is too high.

The 'eyes' are smaller in the face-lift and gives the car a small face huge body look. No one is gonna beat Mercedes on interior design though.

Plz tell if bmw 2 series have leather steering wheel or senstec . I am against leather and animal cruelty.for this i am going with bmw not other luxry.

great that you care!! Most premium cars do have animal skin steering wheel. At Mercedes, you can ask for replacement when ordering, it is not in the price list, but they said you could request at the dealer's. Exceptions: Some base versions in some countries (e.g. Audi A4 in Germany) do offer PU steering wheels if you go for low trim

The look of the estate is just so much more nicer than the sedan imo. All those climate touch screens, touch buttons, capacitive buttons are just so not usefull. What is the reason behind those integrations. Innovation or cheaper production and prone to failure. Like the non moving seat adjusters in the S-class. Why, why, why....

I love everything about this car... except the steering wheel. Why would they ruin one of the best steering wheels on the market with stupid haptic controls? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

all terrain = lets put some plastic on the lower parts

New E-Class lacks true premium look. For example Genesis G80 has it.

Even touching the door handle on the Genesis feels like it belongs in a Dollar Store.

I support the capacitive button police :D We have to fight so cars do not become touch only devices instead of driving machines.

Tried the v90 CC against this. ALL TERRAIN wins on every little thing, even space. :)

Die standard E Klasse ist viel besser aussehend. Irgendwie passt das nicht, wie beim Allroad Audi. Schade.

Self steering is disengaged when the steering wheel is touched. The car will steer itself.

Mercedes needs a new design language.

Had the A6, not impressed and the design is too generic, this is unique, special and total class. I totally disagree, and that's OK.
