Even now in 2019 the R230 SL500 is still one of the most beautifully designed cars in the world. The 1950's SL Gulwing is still the king design icon, but Mercedes nailed it with this generation SL. Only a handful of car designs manage to age & retain an elegant beauty which the R230 has done with ease, even now all these years down the track...... it's stunning ! A simple & unfortunate fact though.....deep pockets are required to run one of these timeless beauties........or you could always buy yourself the newer gen SL from about 2011'ish-2019......you know, the one with the pig ugly front...!! Mercedes need to stop trying to tweek the original R230 design & just come up with a brand new SL shape that will stand alone in the way the R230 does, if not the the SL line will simply stop selling.

I always loved that "smile" these old Mercedes make when you look at them from the front. W211 looks mean, the prefacelift C215 looks tired and this R230 looks pretty relaxed :-)

so how does the 7 gears compare with the 5 speed box? i had a car with a 6 speed gear box but it wasn't a merc so couldn't fairly compare from mercs 5 speed.i find the 5 speed to be fine but maybe i don't know what i am missing as i never tried 7g

Nice choice to have! CL for comfort and SL for fun. Do you need four seats? Do you want a convertible? Those factors will drive your decision.

Also don’t forget to point the end of the key at the little black square on the door handle. Needs to be quite close to work. HTH!

Sorry for the delay in responding - make sure the ABC flush is done regularly and you should be OK. There are plenty of reconditioned parts available as well so no need to go to the dealer. @@glorygiftsglory2771 my Mercedes has 89k miles on it. I have just replaced my struts. $$$ repair my friend. I have had it looked at by 3 different mechanics and each one stated they will not perform the work on it and I eventually settled on going to a dealer to have the repairs done. The used car warranty that I have doesn’t cover struts.

@@KelvinBrandon the abc suspension is the biggest issue with this car. I recommend just removing it and use coil overs. It’s gonna save you a headache

Sorry, your car doesn’t have a leather package so aside from seat fronts, everything else is vynil immitation of leather 🤷🏽‍♂️

Typical Mercedes, over-engineer everything, lol.
