Hey bro, I have a Mercedes Benz cla 250 as well I had it for two years and I had too replace them like 6 times it’s getting frustrating any ideas or tips for them not too get wet or can I buy something too prevent water going threw? Because im seriously thinking of getting a new car seems too be a CLA problem , thanks

Hey Alex, I'm sorry to hear that, but make sure you buy the original part and not a cheap one online, they don't last much longer than OEM. Also if the computer detects that the ballast is damaged you have to reset it or you can check the wiring of the ballast that is not peeled making contact, you have no problem with the water entering the Headlights, right?

No problem bro, make sure the headlight cap is tight, because sometimes with the vibration of the road can loose and water can entre to the headlight, also you can try to change the Headlamp Assembly Cap Seal here is the part number 000-826-81-24 in case your seal is bad or you can use waterproof tape around the headlight cap to prevent water enter to the headlights and you can disconnect the battery for few minutes or use a Scan tool for reset the code, if the display on the dashboard show check daytime running light you don’t need scan tool to reset the code the ecu will do automatically .

Hey there, I've got a CLA45 with the same issue. In the engine bay, my headlight cap fell off and it was pouring rain over night, I think the moisture went through there. My drivers side Daytime running light, parking lamp was working 2 days ago but aren't anymore. My dip & high beams aren't working either. It's also showing that there is an issue with the indicator and it blinks inside really fast, but when you look from the outside it works completely fine. I've tried to blow it with a hair drier and heat gun but the moisture was still stuck in there and when i used a air compressor to blow air in it, more water came out from underneath. The dealership is quoting me 3k for a new one which i'm not willing to pay. Do you think its just the ballast issue and if i open it up and dry it and replace the ballast it'll be fixed? I saw your comment to use the other sides ballast to test it out but i'm scared that water will go inside that one too and mess it up. Please help me out, I'm so frustrated right now. Also, what are the differences between the two ballasts, the one at the bottom and the side.

Yo, bro! thanks for the video! I have the CLA250 2014 4MATIC. The highbeam doesn't work but low is (failed the safety check). I replaced it with new bulb and still the same. Do you think it could be the ballast? Or, it could be something else? Some parts that got mentioned - fuse, control module, igniter...Are they all part of the headlight assembly? Thank you for your support, bro, yes, I think it's the ballast, all the parts you mentioned have to do with the headlights but first check this fuses under the hood 203, 209, 229, 231 and 232, then the ballast although you didn't mention if it's a single headlight or in both headlights, but I'm assuming that you have the problem with a single headlight If this is the case, this is an easier way to find out if it is the ballast that is damaged, place the headlight ballast that is working into the headlight is not turning on, to see if it turns on the headlight that is not turning on, if it still does not turn on the headlight is the control module. This one is located on the back of the headlights. The same thing, change the control module of the other headlight and place it in the other headlight. Remember, if the lights stopped working, it must be because they don't have power, which means that there is a fuse or ballast blow up but in mine case was the ballast not the module control or fuse so try it that first and let me know how it works.

Great video. I just got water in my control module for the right head lamp (passenger) and in turn it blew out the fuse. The left headlamp started to have issues and once I replaced the fuse it kept blowing out until I had to disconnect the right headlamp. Once I disconnected it, the left headlamp came on (with a new fuse). Should I try to dry out the control module that was damaged by water or buy a new one? I was thinking of putting it in rice for a day 😂. What do you think? Thanks in advance!

You can try to dry out the control module, but it doesn't work for long. Remember that moisture is the first enemy of these ballasts if they turn on, if at all. I recommend that you buy a new one, and make sure that the cover where the headlight bulb is through the fender is closed tightly and when you install the new control module in, make sure that everything is well sealed, Otherwise water or humidity will enter again and you will have the same problem again.

Hi, I recently bought a new passenger headlight from Mercedes for my cla. After a few weeks it got really misty inside realised I forgot to put the cover. Passenger light completed stopped working and then a few days the after the driver side completely stopped working. Why is that the other side is not working as there is no mist at all looks fine.

It may be a fuse, but I have a subscriber who has a similar problem and bought a keyboard duster and sprayed all the connectors and the headlights began to work perfectly, the reason you get moisture is because the headlight cover may be loose, which causes water damage to the headlight ballast! The driver's is not supposed to turn off but there are times that it is also turn off but once you fix the one on the left side it's supposed to both turn on.

No, you don't need a code to replace the ballast, all you have to do is replace the ballast and the headlight is supposed to work !

How did you get the moisture that remained in the assembly? Did you take it apart this was a big help tho

The way I removed moisture from the headlight was using a heat gun or a hair dryer, but I opened the headlight to seal it with waterproof silicon around the headlight and make sure that the headlight cover is closed correctly because with the vibration of the road it can be loose and the water can easily enter the headlight. After doing That, I never have a problem with it.

After I changed my headlight ballast for the 2nd time both headlights were working for like 2 weeks. Now my left driver side headlight is not working but the LED strip is working. Those ballast you purchased first are Original OEM ? Try the right bulbs into the left side just to see if the bulb is working properly if everything works properly is the ballast, I’m sure it is the ballast but you can try the bulb just to see!

I have the exact same headlights but my issue is the led strip that isn’t working (It says check Daytime running lights and to check front right turn signal). Is there a way to replace the bulbs? Or do I have to buy a new Bi-Xenon assembly?

You can replace the bulb 💡 but to replace it you have to open the headlight with hot or use hairdryer to remove the silicone That’s to much. But mine Mercedes has 60 miles and I never had a problem with the light out yet . but I suggest you first try to change the ballast or the control module in the headlight to do that you can use the left ballast or the control module that is in the lower part of the headlight gust to see if the light is come on because the way Mercedes designed it is exposed to water which can easily enter into ballast and damage it! Try first the ballast I hope this helps you

@@AUTOPERFORMS thanks for the reply! I changed the ballast but had no luck. Bought the control module (the side part) and that worked, the led lights came back. After a few minutes of them being on, the daytime running lights turn off suddenly but the right front turning signal works. Is there a reason they shut off after a few seconds of being on? No problem bro, do you replace the module control with oem quality ? Try to check if the headlight fuses are still in good condition, also if you have the light switch in "Auto", the LEDs should be on or if you have the switch in "P" this turns off the lights on one side of the car ! This happen to you when the engine is on or off ?? Let’s me know what you’ve done so far !

Hello friend, I don't think you will get an electric shock just by replacing the ballast, just make sure there are no bare wires, I replace the ballast without having to disconnect the battery, it is your preference if you want to disconnect the battery you must disconnect both batteries, the auxiliary battery and the main battery under the hood. For me it is easier to replace the ballast without having to disconnect both batteries. Also make sure you buy the OEM quality ballast.

Oh sorry to hear that bro but if you get water into the ballast yes you have to replace it, see if the headlight cap is loose because the water is entering from somewhere and if you don’t seal properly it will get wet again and you will have to replace your ballast again or the module control

Sorry to hear that bro, but First you have to remove all the moisture inside the headlight with a hair dryer !Do not close the opening cap cover, leave it open so that the temperature inside the headlights cools a little. and don’t use too much heat. If the module control has moisture or water in the connection, you must replace it and the ballast as well! Also the headlight cover has a gasket that sometimes breaks or doesn't have it. It's important to check it too, so that you don't have any type of moisture or water filtration since the cover can be released due to the vibrations of the road. Another thing you can do try to swap the ballast for the other side of the headlight and if the headlight start on you know was the ballast not the module control and do the same thing with the module control before purchase it.

If you want to buy a new headlights, you can do it, but make sure that the small cap where the bulbs are changed is well closed, it really doesn't matter if the headlights are new, if the cap is a little open water will enter or If the gasket of the cap is damaged you will have the same problem with humidity, to fix this, you can use a blower or heat gun for humidity only takes a few minutes And make sure that you close the cap of the headlights well so that water does not enter and damage the ballast. I think it's much cheaper to use a blower than to replace the headlight.

I have the same problem. After replacing the ballast, there's still mist inside. How to remove mist out of it completely ?

Use a hairdryer to dry out the moist air without breaking the seal. Use a hairdryer to blow hot, dry air into the vent where you replace the headlights bulb or on the outside of the headlight unit. As it heats up, it should dry out.

@vattenarey4505. Did your lower beams work after replacing it. I have the same car and all my lights work park lights, running daytime signal lights but when it’s night my lower beam passenger side beam stops working and at times the whole side is completely out at night

Saludos amigo y gracias, yo te recomiendo que antes de comprar el ballast nuevo intenta colocar el ballast del otro lado aver si enciende el headlight si no enciende es el módulo control pero normalmente es el ballast solo para ir te a la segura !

Okay lo que pasa es que si es de mala calidad no te va encender se funde muy rápido pero si está oxidada la conexión es posible que esté entrando agua por la tapa que está en el fender eso me paso ami, pero si aún no enciende intenta con los fusibles ó limpia bien la conexión del headlight aver si hace contacto y logra encender el headlight !

Hi bro, yea try to install the old ballast on the new headlights first, if you don't try the module control too, and if you buy used headlight it may be sold to you damaged if that is your case, I recommend to install the old module control on the new headlights. So what happened to the old headlight that you end up buying a new headlight ? Tell me if that fixed your headlights or not !!!

Yes, but it depends on the car you have, some module controls can be installed without having to reprogram it the computer does it automatically, but others need to be reprogrammed to be available to work properly. I recommend that you try to replace the control module and if you don't turn on the headlight you know that, and need to be reprogram before you have to spend a little more money on reprogramming the control module. Let me know if it works !!

Hi mate, I have a 2014 cla 250 as well! Thanks for the video. My problem is that the led daylight light is not working and I get an error that the turn signal does not work, which is not true. It works, but when I turn it on it clicks like crazy in the instrument cluster, but it flashes completely normal in the headlight itself. One thing to note is that when I lock/unlock the car it did not flash. My high and low beams work perfectly. Just the daylight led is not working. With your help I managed to replace first the balast on the bottom of the headlight, but nothing changed. Then I changed the control module which is on the side of the headlight/there was moisture inside/ and now the turn signal flashes when locking/unlocking the car. However, the daylight led came on only for a few seconds and went out again and does not work... I can see the following error codes when I scan with OBD: B177887 and B283F87. It's for the right headlight, left one is working perfect. Also, there has never been any water inside the headlight itself. Do you have any suggestions? Any help is appreciated!

@@AUTOPERFORMS actually the control connector was not moist at all, only the motherboard of the control module was wet. I did not try reprogramming the module - I didn't know that it needed to be reprogrammed, I thought it was plug and play. Do you know what I need to do to reprogram it?

Actually now, when I unlock the car the DRL comes on, but only a part of it is lit up and then after 2-3 seconds, it comes off completely haha. It's getting worse haha...

I have exactly same problem on my left headlight. So I orderd a new ballst. But my right lamp dosent work aswell, only the daylight light and turn signal. And I checked with a Volt metere and the lamp is getting electrision.

Okay, the easiest way to check if it doesn’t work before you buy another new light bulb 💡 or new ballast, if the left headlight works well with the new ballast, try to swap the left headlight bulb with the right headlight bulb, just to see if the light works, if you test the bulb and it still doesn’t work, that means you need to replace the ballast, try the new ballast you bought for the left headlight and put it on the right headlight it’s supposed to work with the new ballast.

@@Kelben23 No, it is not necessary to reprogram anything to replace the ballast or the light bulb the computer will do automatic, Remember that you tried it with the voltmeter and show have power, right? So if the connector to the light bulb have power that’s mean the ballast is bad. Because mine was showing on the display "check right daytime running light" after replacing the ballast, the message on the display goes off automatic. Let me know if it works for you !

Just 4 screws to replace the module and that’s it right?

No, you don't have to replace the entire headlight, only one of these 3 are not working, the ballast, the control module or the LED light, I suggest you try to use the working ballast on the non-working headlight just to see if the lights come on before buying a new parts.

My whole passenger headlight isn’t working but I do have a ton of moisture in it

Well bro, you have to dry all the moisture with hairdryer or any heat gun first before installing the new ballast, if you see any green mold on the connector use any electrical cleaner to remove it, try first to replace the ballast not the module control or switch the ballast to the left side to see if it works properly!

Saludos amigo, para resetear la luz normalmente tienes que usar un scan tools pero en mi caso la computadora lo hizo automáticamente espera unos minutos luego de reemplazar el ballast !

Why do those idiots are designing these headlights that all electronic modules are directly beneath, in the lowest point. Wate and moisture will eventually find the way down and corrode LED/Xenon modules. It's stupid or intentional design so we'll need to pay for fixing it :)

Haha, you're right bro, I think that's the way they can make money 💰 making everything uncomfortable and unreliable, quite expensive compared to other brands, although it's not the only brand that has this type of Led module design. I prefer to fix it myself.

Saludos amigo, antes de configurar la computadora intenta revisar el ground de los headlights, el fusible de los headlight. una pregunta tienes el problema con los dos headlight, si es solo uno intenta colocar el ballast de el que enciende en el otro headlight solo para probar el ballast.

@@AUTOPERFORMS I said no because to much money(1500 euro's for a complete headlight. For the led thats not forking, is not worth it. Maybe de module is the problem. I am gonna replace that by a elektronic garage. He will check the problem. I have no water or damages in the headlight. I have no warranty! The xenon works but the led daylight is not working and looks so ugly by night. I have to fix it. But replace the headlight is very expensive and not worth it.

Oh, yea don't listen the dealer, they always want money, but do this first, take the module control of from the left headlight and put it on the right headlight, if the LED turns on, you know it was the control module, now if the LED don't turn on yet, try the ballast the same thing use left ballast, before buying any parts is easiest to remove the module control but the ballast you have to remove the front bumper! Let me know if it works
