As commenters have correctly pointed out, the silver boxes at the rear of the engine are part of the intercooler system, the turbos themselves are located down low each side of the engine (out of sight).

What an amazing engine. I can only imagine what it feels like driving such a luxurious vehicle with a super car engine. One day I would like to purchase a 65, even if it is the older model.

Apparently changing the spark plugs is a job because of the lack of space in the engine bay. The engine has to be jacked up from under the car to access the 24 plugs according to the merc mechanic that serviced my cl500. Very nice car.

Ive done them on my S600 - im a noob mechanic - really easy - not hard at all. Just need right tools.

Great engine. Does anyone know how reliable it is? What is to obey regarding maintenance to have fun with it in the long term?

Have you had any mechanical issues in the time you have owned it? I am tempted to get one, but a failure is a scary thought.

You should consider upgrading your intercooler fill neck with this reservoir from the M279. I did this to my 2005 SL65 AMG and it works fabulously! mbworld.org/forums/m275-v12-bi-turbo-platform/626110-m279-improvements-backward-compatibility.html#post6849713
