    Did you take the cats off of this? It looked like you still had em on, and i mean i suppose the argument could be made that there is a muffler making this legal in some states, but just to be sure. (I am in the market for one of these cars rn so any other tips would also be helpful)

    Nice job 👍🏼 Question: Did you slide the pipe work on the inside or outside on to the existing exhaust? Over is always better because the airflow won’t get reduced. I’m about to do the same to my W215 CL600 I recently bought. The only change I will make is to bend the pipe work at the exhaust ends in a Y-shape because the smoke will exit the exhaust more evenly. This will really show when its cold outside whilst running on idle.

  • @reconenginesexpert9257

    @reconenginesexpert9257

    Didnt slide anything, the silencers were cut out and straight pipe welded in place of it. Y-Pipe is a good idea, not only for the smoke but one side of my exhaust is always dirtier than the other due to the petrol leaking more so out of one side, which again you would prefer an even wear.

    ReconEngines Expert I had that same problem many years ago, that’s why I always put an Y-pipe at the ends. When one side is almost black you can’t even notice it has a double exhaust tip looking from far away. I’m about to start on my CL600 exhaust. This week I’ll start with emptying the Cats first. I’ll look for a pipe that slides over the existing pipe work just for that little extra stability it has. Do you know the diameter of the pipe? I can measure it myself no problem but the car is at the garage now so maybe I can start ordering the parts needed to start right away when I’m at the garage. Cheers

    ReconEngines Expert I’ve already ordered the pipes and AMG exhaust tips, there are a lot of different diameters of the exhaust pipes underneath the car. The exhaust tips I’ve ordered are Y-pipes and I’ve also ordered a sports mid-damper because I’m a bit worried the sound will resonate through the interior of the car at cruising speeds. Did you experience anything like that?

    The silenced version is really bad but with the AMG straight pipe its not the loudest as you would expect for a V12 but it does have a mean throaty response which is not too loud because Ive had very loud cars and the novelty wears off quickly particularly on a long journey. Also having said that, I could listen to my straight piped BMW M6 V10 all day long so it depends on the sound. This sound is mean, however if you want to get real mean, then the X pipe with the F1 exhaust header from Japan is perfect on the NA CL600 2000-2001 models only. Hi there is a vacuum pipe between the reso & secondary cats, what’s it’s purpose and if it gets tied off on a custom pipe is it advisable?? I did the same but it can drone on motorway flips on and off though the drone doesn’t get gradual it just appears at those revs and wanted to know what can be done to get rid of this drone intensity

  • @reconenginesexpert9257

    @reconenginesexpert9257

    2 жыл бұрын

    No I didnt see any vacuum pipes on mine, don't think there was any o2 sensors either as 2001 model. Your best option to fix drone may be to stick a cat, mid box or silencer back on the pipe somewhere and see how it sounds. Or a custom box that can be made up and you can weld on, should sort the sound at that particular rev.

  • @spring6meow

    Lol good question!! except from lucky experience being fortunate enough to have a tuff 08 CL63 AMG and amazing 08 CL600 v12. Fascinating comparison. if you want a loud noise and an unbelievably fast car get the 63AMG. If you want a sly ROCKET that will SMOKE IT yet ride like a magic carpet in near silence get a CL600 V12 - if you can find one! The earlier v12 up til ‘06 had issues with cylinders microscopically out of round and a few others, corrected in the 275 version w/turbo Loud noise or rocketship? I know for realz which is the car to own The 7speed tranny wouldn’t work in the CL600- because the V12 is so brutal that it tore the 7-spd trans to pieces so it has same 5sp trans as in CL65. I don’t care so much about LOUD as I do about stunning V12 CL600 torque with such amazing trim. It’s gorgeous - but hey! Either will do…

    Yes Ive also got the S600 V12 2007 Biturbo and I have done the same straight pipe with it. Spot on with the comparisons, CL63 = V8 Rugged Power CL600 = V12 Smoth Power, only thing the 600 lacks on both W215/W220 and W216 / W221 models is a little bit of grunt. The way the engine is designed, is to be smooth and quiet, so when you straight pipe these models on a CL600 / S600 it becomes a sporty AMG tone if you like, Ive had 50 and 60 year olds drive my S600 straight pipe and think it has the perfect sound, not too quiet and not too loud. If you do this on a CL63, you can be 20 again, each to their own though, will post the S600 straight video on here in a few days.

    Same way, cut the system off, cut out the silencer boxes that you want to try first (there are quite a few silencers so maybe start with less silencers and see how it sounds for you then if not loud enough cut out other silencers and weld a straight pipe over), post a link on here if you do it would be good to compare 55 to 600 tone.
