Thank you for this video and post. I was going to buy one today and cancelling my appointment. You saved me money and a lot of headache! Thank you so much

I'm glad to hear that. I think you're making the right decision.
You buy a mercedes and you think you are buying premium, your not, you are buying mass produced cars built to a price, it’s a terrible sham they used to build outstandingly good high quality cars since the star went from the grille on the w124 to sit on the bonnet that was the beginning of the end for a great marque, i would definitely get rid for something more reliable, great to see your honesty in the video and not all the rubbish product endorsement we see everyday, keep up the good work

You're absolutely right. Unfortunately there's a lot of manufacturers like this. At least in years gone by when cars were unreliable, you had some chance of fixing them yourself.
My dad has a 2016 c350e never really had any problems. Only an abs light sensor.that’s pretty much it. It has 96k miles and he’s had it for a year and it’s been reliable.
Very informative video! Thank you.Could you give more details on these "examples" of yours of poor Mercedes quality you referred to?
i've bought this car on 70000 miles and have spent thousands on it in the space of 6 months of ownership, common fault vent-line leaking which travels up the engine wiring loom and makes it to the ecu, also changed water pump, also changed starter, also changed boot lid soft close motor

Nightmare! And do you still have it? They're a terrible car.
Have the estate version. Have it for a year and a half now and while it started out being fine, it slowly grew to be a major problem car. Oil pressure solenoid wiring loom failed and apparently it’s a common fault and Mercedes have re-engineered the replacement part thereby admitting it’s inferior - not a recall though… repaired for €750. Now the heat converter for the battery has failed and the car is undriveable without it. €2,500 to repair. As with other contributors here, my sentiment is that you expect quality when buying a luxury brand but this car falls far short of reasonable reliability and build quality. Never again.
Thanks for this, o was looking at one of these. I'll be giving it a miss now.

I have a 2018 c350e and I never had a problem other than flat tires, it already has more than 35 thousand kilometers, maybe the low beams are too short on the road, but that's okay. We have done more than 500 kilometers in one go without any problems.

Mauricio lucky you. Enjoy the car . I will have to get rid of mine .
I bought on after watching your first video now i have suspension pump problem also
One car problem doesn’t mean that the manufacturer is reliable for it, depends on who was the driver of it before and how they look after it my friend !!!
Just before covid hit us in 2020, I walked in a Mercedes dealer, saw one I liked, brand new on the lot, 19 km on the odo . After a test drive, to the dismay of the salesperson, I plugged in a OBD 2 reader; 8 recorded / stored faults already, but no lights on the dash (not sure why). I don’t care if some were easy fixes or not: it is a $80k car. That was the end of the negotiation. And the end of the Mercedes brand for me. Cousins and BIL had 3 Mercedes between themselves, albeit 4 or 5 years older, and also had faults (and with check engine lights). They are super refine to drive, yes, but perhaps they are not built for Canadian winters. I did not have such issues with other brands (well, my Audi had 1 fault: mid front speaker was not connected); Lexus 350, Boxster, mustang, Regal, and Honda Pilot = no fault stored at time of road testing them. I know Mercedes might have catch these during the inspection, but still....

I was also interested in this car but the used market price is something, that already rings the bell. My 2013 Mazda 6 with 70000 km has almost the same price as a 2016 350e T with 190000 km. The price difference was double when they were brand new. Thank you for your review, it explains the used market prices.

@@Endfloat not sure if you get them over there or not but (also hi from new Zealand 🇳🇿) what are your thoughts on a Infiniti q50 hybrid I've got one and it decently fuel efficient 7l/100km but at 370hp can't you really complain I've got one and it great but like to know your thoughts 🤔
I own a lovely 220 CDI Elegance 2008 - only 75 k solid car love it. A few Taxi Mercedes friends reckon the newer Mercs are nowadays no way the same build or reliability. Toyotas never let you down I had a few carinas in my time and still drive my 1999 workhorse the 1.3 hatchback with 105k on the clock. I hope your dad gets something reliable and fun to drive.

There have definitely been some bulletproof mercs over the years, but they've turned out just as much utter shite in the process, which is why I don't think they deserve the reputation they have.
Good luck mate, my aunt had one of these brand new 220d in 2018, at 4000km and ~6month both front light broke and Mercedes didnt want to replace them under warranty, so we ended up to paying 2.5K€

That's crazy! I don't know how they get away with these things and still keep the reputation they have for being a good car!
How disappointing. I watched your earlier review of the car and it all sounded quite promising, but I'm with you 100% on reliability being paramount in choice of car. Good luck to your dad, hope his replacement proved more reliable.
Bought a 2017 C350e with 30k miles a month ago and the front suspension and pump has had to be replaced as well as the rear camera. They look great but seriously poor build issues. Will never buy a Mercedes Benz again.
@Endfloat

They really are a nightmare. I'm hoping my dad doesn't have any more hassle with his, but I've a funny feeling it won't be the last time he's slapped with a monster repair bill.
Also, hybrid owners should factor in the hybrid battery replacement costs when buying. The C350e hybrid battery is approx €5k to replace. The Mercedes warranty is 6 years or 100k which is good but if you’re buying a used car that period will likely be gobbled up.
I agree to this. We have a 2017 C350e. All was good till 5 years later. We had to change the flywheel and the starter motor. £2500 down to drain. I forgot to mention, its only 45000 miles! Ill probably do the same.
My grandpa has one of theese, and the solenoid valve on the adjustable damper on the rear left just disappeared, and the mechanics dont understand how it even got loose
My 2p worth, a bit disappointed by my c350e, issues with charge flap not opening, blown turbos, plug in hybrid with a turbo not a great idea in hindsight, always start the car engine and warm up a little before setting off, service with really good oil it’s a fussy pants setup. My advice, go full electric on the like of the mg estate or get a petrol motor just like c200 etc. save the hassle.

I think if you want a reliable hybrid, you won't go far wrong with a Lexus or Toyota, or any Japanese or Korean cars to be honest.
I totally agree , Mersades is a car with a lot of reliability issues, what a shame
So like any production cars you do get certain batches that habe common issues mine has been fine until this year when the passenger side day light failed . This was a mot failure and I had a absolute shock when I was told it'll be £280 to investigate and almost £1,500 to replace the module . Enough to put me off mercedes for life . This 2018 c350e is going up for sale asap !
I stuck with my old Mercedes E320 cdi for nearly 5 years and now has done 171000 without breaking down and only needing general wear and tear parts, i guess build quality has gone down the pan.
Dont use this car, just buy a toyota. You have the toyota owners face

I'm thinking the new Camry would be a really nice car for him. The local dealership had a lovely one and I could see him in it. He's worked hard and deserves it!
Bought one at 90k km. Had it for half a year and spent 7000€ on airmatic, compressor, regulator, speed sensor and a service... Seller boasted of a really good suspension when in fact It was broken :( got royally fucked, hopefully it will be nice going forward..! However I feel like the suspension on such a luxury car should have more than a 5 year lifespan!!
Hi there I have one C350e and the guy I bought it from does not want to know me . I got message on the dashboard last week saying Malfunction. I can't find anyone to fix it . Haha, a buddy of mine has spent over 12000 euro fixing his e220d so potato potAto. It depends alot on how you treat the car. Ppl said my 318d would only be trouble. It has now passed 455.000km so i guess its all about taking care of the car and buying one that isnt shit either from factory or second hand :P now matter how you twist it though, cars are just an expense item anyways. But funny how different opinions and viewpoints one can get due to varying experiences
Diesels hybrids (non-PHEV) if you go long distances but if your city stuck then get a Toyota hybrid no problem
The worst nightmare for these models will be the lithium battery. I have the same battery in E350e and I don’t know any affordable solution to replace if it fails. I hope someone would find a realistic solution to those batteries.

I am sorry that your dad has had so many problems with his pride and joy. Mercedes do NOT have the reliability or build quality that they once had. Buy a Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki or Honda. With the aforementioned brands you have a good chance of good reliability and customer service. Take care.
When buy a prestige car you have to maintain it. If you buy a lexus expect big bills £800 for basic service . That why you buy the service plans and warranty plans its an insurance
My HV battery gone and will cost 7200£ plus VAT for parts only. Nightmare of a car....
I have the sports premium estate… and I’ve had no issues… just normal wear and tear when serviced….your dad must have gone to msl if being charged €300 for what they call a diagnostic… which is just to ‘have a look’…. Utter nonsense. Anyway, good video but I think your dad has been unlucky 🤷🏼♂️
Buy lexus but take out the service and warranty plan
Wrong, i have mine now for 4 years and now 216000 km on the odo. Never a single issue with it everything is good all the functions are oke. Only every 3 years new tyres but thats no problem. My next will be a ecq . Thank you mercedes for your good cars. I drive now 16 year mercedes and no problems so far.

I am not wrong. I am speaking from my own personal experience and the experience that my father has had so far. Even after this video was made, there has been other issues. It's not a good car. Your experience is different to mine, but that doesn't mean that I'm wrong.
Good honest review and actual experience however never have pride in owning a car like this as pride always comes before a fall. Trying to impress people you don't know with cars like this is a big mistake. Why do people want to make a silly statement about a car.? That is shallow. It says nothing good about the person driving it only that they are attention seeking deficit in unhappy lives hoping objects make them feel better about themselves. Luxury statements are illusions empty and expensive. Be truthful to yourselves and not a slave to a lie for others to think you are more . Take pride in kindness to others, not in cars to finance dealerships greed and corporate profits in Stuttgart.
