Mercedes AC Aircon Fault Reset, Leak Fix & Re-charge. W211 E-Class

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My W211 E220 AC started blowing warm air. The pressure got so low that the on board computer disabled the compressor. The red AC light flashed and then went out. (UPDATE 22/8/16: Still Cold!)
I wanted to fix the leak and recharge with r134a but the compressor needs to be running when you inject these two.
This is how I approached the task.

I purchased the i980 and this process worked perfectly on my 2007 W211. Thanks for the video. Saved a pile of money and I have the diagnostic tool for future upkeep.

Top man! My W203 C270 CDI is in France and the last time I was there I noticed the A/C off (yes,on that model it is an 'off' light) was lit up all the time. I had arranged for a local garage to look it up when I go there next week, but now realise they won't be able to do anything without this ODB reader to reset the fault. So, plunging in, following your footsteps. I hope it works, but either way, great video, thanks!

So I live in Florida too. My 2003 is great but may have a small leak. May be less expensive over time just to add ac gas ti my system before it stops running from low pressure. Not sure how much a can of ac refrigerant costs? And not sure if stop-leak leak-shield is good for the overall ac system over time?

Tom, thank you so much for the video. My 2007 E350 had the exact same problem. To reset the AC fault light, my old ODB2 reader did not work. I bought a brand new ODB2 (with many recommendations for Mercedes) from a different producer, which did not work either. On the contrary, iCarSoft i980 is the one that works! I followed you instructions to reset and filled the AC with one can of a/c Pro max seal and two cans of a/c Pro r134a today (36oz total). I just hope that the sealing is going to last. After having dealer services on this car for the last twelve years, with a plenty of $300+ oil changes (Service A), I found that some modestly difficult work on my car interesting!

Hi So you can refill it without clearing the code? After refill you just have to wait for the compressor to come on? I can not clear the code myself and obviously i'm trying to avoid the trip to the garage. Thanks.

Well i didn't go that path after all, instead decided to play the garage version, so refill, clear the code, 60 quid down, thought i was over it. After a couple of weeks i was again with no a/c, lost it all, so definitely a leak. Another visit to the garage, investigated but not find the leak, obviously i had to refill so they can see any sign of leakage, but no succese so far, it seems to me that where i live they do not know or have the right means or gear to locate the leak, so this time i was 85 quid down. It's going to be an expensive summer.... Thanks for your reply.

Great video, I have regased my my w211 the temp comes down to around 10c but it does seem to take longer as it gets hotter, it then does not go down to 10c anymore, according to my code reader the in cab sensor the one adjacent to the front interior light is not working ,but the one nr to the ignition is working, do you or anybody else who has made a comment think this could be the problem, any advise would be appreciated.

Tom sometimes the hoses migrate the gas as they get older thus a real slow leak. Check all the hard connections for wet oil leaks first by eye then the flex hoses . After that the compressor seal at the pulley under the car . After that the condenser in front . If the evaporator in the dash is the problem well bye bye blackbird.

Hi Dave, follow the link in the description above. Worth pointing out that if you are reasonably technical, you can pick up a $5 port scanner on eBay and try and use the home-grown software supplied with it to scan and reset faults. I used this iCarsoft scanner to keep things simple, but it's not cheap and it is only configured for Mercs. The general purpose OBD scanners will work with any manufacturer providing you get the software to drive it.
