I can't find apple carplay on my 2018 e-class. Any pointers on how to get it?

Can anyone confirm if this is the same Apple CarPlay which is used in the new shape A-Class 2018/2019?

I saw a random video snip of the new a-class showing the carplay feature and it looked like it only uses the screen size of the 7". So it's not going to be a full-screen view for carplay even if you have the 10.25''. Guess MB wants you to upgrade to their navigation to get the full screen. If this is the case, kinda lame...

You say Google Maps but I believe that was Apple Maps you showed.

When Spotify or tune-in are playing can you go back to the Mercedes menu and choose MERCEDES maps and STILL listen to the Spotify audio? i.e. I don't want to have to use apple maps. When the e-class was first launched you could not do this and i'm hoping it has ben updated. Thanks

Oh and again in early models you could not use the steering wheel pads to navigate carplay you had to use the click wheel. Is that still the case ? thanks

Hey guys! We were on Xmas holiday so didn’t have access to the comments. I can’t see any reason why not but then didn’t try this when the car was in. One to try in the future.

Looks like the new A Class MBUX is a big step up. When you get one in could you confirm the following 1) When using apple carplay can you use the steering touch pads to navigate or only the main centre one 2) When using Apple Maps do you get turn arrows between the instruments/on the HUD 3) If listening o Spotify etc on CarPlay can you use Mercedes maps at SAME time 4) Is carplay wireless (I've seen one report it is but no video evidence!) Thanks

@@MiniEggs1999 unfortunately answer is no to all of the 4 questions. None of them are possible in a 2017/18 E Class.

Is CarPlay available on the S class? Does it support wireless CarPlay?

That's a question for Mercedes I'm afraid.

The car play does not pop up when I connect the iPhone using the USB lead. Not sure where things have gone wrong. Is it my mobile or actually the car. Tried an alternative iPhone as well and still no luck.

Means your car doesn’t support car play. It will always automatically start and recognise your phone if it did.

Can you use touchpad to control or move menu?

Mine could not use touchpad to move, i have to use the wheel, touchpad can only be used to press, for example if I use touchpad to move to “next button” in apple music, and then I can press on the touchpad to move to next song. Is it the same on yours?

Is it possible to get&install Apple car play for Merc w213 ?car comes with smaller screen .

can it play tv shows or videos from youtube

The main reason why Mercedes don’t use a touch screens, because it’s a big time distraction from the road. The command system is much easier and faster to use.

Touch screens are distracting and get greasy from fingers - if you had ever had the pleasure of owning a modern merc you would come to appreciate this

New Lexus and Mazda carplay don’t come with touchscreen. I think they doing this to avoid distractions.
