Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Driving the FJ Cruiser through the Namib desert to Meob bay, Episode 10.
The series will be aproximately 11 episodes covering the 7 days of our journey through the scorching desert with extreme dunes to the West coast of Namibia where we wil catch fish and drive some scary dunes. In our convoy we have the FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser pickup, a couple of GD6 Hiluxes, Fortuner and notably the brand new Nissan Patrol.
We tackle the long drive out of the desert. Racing the tide, doing the dunes around Sandwich harbour. We exit the desert at Walvisbaai
and proceed to Swakopmund where we stay at Alte Brucke for our last night of the trip.

    It has to be one of the most epic drives in the World! Sea to the left lapping the tyres, pristine pink desert to the right and a distant horizon that could take one to the ends of the Earth, bliss! Is this what is known as the Skeleton coast?

    The skeleton coast actually starts from where we stopped in Swakopmund and goes north to Angloa as I anderstand it. Lots of whale skeletons though.

    What was the cost of your trip per person? And did you go with a tour operator?

  • @JorsMalan

    @JorsMalan

    3 жыл бұрын

    We went with NAMAB, PW van Zyl was the guide. They are the only ones who can go in through Kanaan. Cost paid to the operator was just under R11k per person of which 6500 goes for the permit. All meals and accommodation included except for the first night in the dunes where you pitch your own tent or slept u der the stars. We booked in 2019 and the trip got postponed several times because of lockdowns so Idont know how up to date that is. We went 5 days. 6 days is not much more and preferable. Other costs for each person was for acco odation before and after

    Wow, awesome you are now monetized and with a growing world wide audience you could/may make some good money. Well done...that is if its what you want hahahha

  • @JorsMalan

    @JorsMalan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, but I turned the monetization off, was a mistake. The intent is to have fun, I did turn monetization on on older videos as a test and I made $1.32 💪😁 It is too much work, and I dont want the pressure of having to make videos, editing is a pain.

    How does the lead vehicle know what route to take? 11:25 What was that abandoned vehicle on the left? When serving on the ‘PK’ in the ‘60s, we docked at Walvis Bay and a few of us decided to ‘gooi duim’ to Swakopmund, and seeing that lovely town made us realise why it was and is such a popular holiday resort. ‘Skeleton Coast’ for a reason. Edit: Should of waited for the end to see you had guides directing the lead vehicle of course🤗 Removed the mention of the ‘PP’ as that tragedy happened later whilst I was still serving on the ‘PK’ and we and the ‘PS’ didn’t enter Walvis on that occasion.

    Both our guides had "grown up in the desert". Both their dads had worked in the desert for most of their lives, they know their way around the desert and they know where to go. From time to time we would see older tracks that have not been completely covered by the wind and sand and you would realise that they are taking a known route. I missed recording one story that one guide told on the radio of when the Namibian Police crossed the desert for the first time to investigate what was going on when the reports of the first diamod mining came though , they crossed with camels on roughly the route we drove. One of the problems they had with the camels was getting down a slipface, the camels would not go down them which makes finding a path a lot more difficult. Can you give some detail of the PK and PP you are refering to? I am assuming vessels?

    Jors, SAS President Kruger (PK) I served on & President Steyn (PS) my brother served on 4years later, are Type 12 Frigates of the then SA navy The ‘PK’ and ‘PS’ sailed from Simonstad to welcome the new Type 12 frigate President Pretorius (PP) that was on its way back from wing built in the UK to join the SA fleet. We met her off of the coast of then SWA with much joy only to turn into tragedy when the helicopter from the ‘PP’ ditched and sunk. Only one of its two crew was rescued, and all ships spent hours searching for the other crew member but without luck A somber day that turned into, and no mention on any web site I can find 😡

    Jors, That must have been the destroyer SAS Simon van der Stel that escorted the ‘PP’ into Cape Town at some point soon after being commissioned into the SA Navy.
