Finally understand why my teammate always answered "I don't know" when I asked him about certain moves he made. He was the best player in our team, and probably always immersed himself in self 2. Thanks for cracking the mystery for me coach!

this is facts, i remember being on self 2 only a couple of moments in my life. the first time embraced self 2, my mind is completely off and just let my instincts take control, i dropped 6 threes in the 4th qrt and dropped 33 points the whole game. also hit a game winning layup with my mind completely off, just raw animal instinct. but on most days, i always think and think and results into not a great performance on the court.

Damn, I remember when I was playing in HS, I was in such a zone, I wouldn't hear the crowd, felt like in a blurry bubble, would do everything by instinct. Was killin it. Now I overthink, lose confidence when I miss a couple shots..Gotta get back to self 2. Thanks a lot

A thought on your analogy of self one, and self two if you're interested, is the difference between the philosophy of techne and episteme. Episteme is a Greek word used to describe a type of knowledge in an analytical or scientific way. Episteme pretty much means that you understand the theory behind something. Techne is also a Greek word for knowledge, but the meaning is apart from episteme. Techne is a knowledge with wisdom, much like a craftsman or an artist. Techne is an ingrained knowledge that cannot be learned through text or instruction. P.S. your podcasts are awesome man. I'm a 44 year old 6'0" dad who's keeping up with players half his age thanks to guys like you.

Fantastic mention man and well done speaking on this. In my first 25 years of living I've only now even begun being aware and learning how deep the rabbit hole goes when it comes to not only ingrained subconscious patterns but finally the means to reprogramming them. The amount of times I'd sit there and consciously think 'Hang on, for reasons X, Y and Z I should not be feeling this scared or panicked or worried or nervous' and yet I still would anyway and had no idea how to approach conquering that. It's funny thinking as well because, as a musician, I want to practice all day every day and improve my craft and now thinking about it, there's been so many days where, without realising the ginormous role the subconscious and it's patterns are playing, I'll be feeling so up against it and so defeated for no clear reason and yet other days I'll be feeling in the zone for hours and hours of study with no end in sight.

“That zen buddhism shit, y’all get in the moment and stay here” I wrote down that Michael Jordan quote while watching the last dance because is something that I felt while training and you confirmed it with this video. We can adjust some stuff (in my case, the Homecourt app can tell me about my release angle) but that is self 1 as you call it. When we are going to shoot (or play) we must to enter the zone. I experienced also this with jiujitsu. Nice video

okey, I am shooting coach and I have helped players to get their shooting percentage from 30% to 45-50%; pro players; youth etc. :) I teach from a deep practice perspective, there is a book "talent code" and it works! I think biggest problem is that players and COACHES don't know what biomechanics should be for shooting in the first place, but when you give your body correct freedom it will repeat with time same mechanics consistently ... maybe this is the first time I disagree with you? :D :) because in my 5-6 year or work I have experienced real results by teaching consciousness over feelings :) of course in games it is more about "self 2" or even 100% "self 2" ... even then I have successful examples of thing about one specific kay while shooting in-game; same about free throw

Once you find a more comfortable form ans adjust that make that you're new killer way .... Here is why lonzo ball example one ... tim Tebow there's a reason. Why they tell us to square up face the basket and follow through yes there is a flow about the game and about our shots however you can't Shawn Marion your way through... you gotta practice and make adjust.ents find your balance and or " FORTE" if you may when it comes to shooting that ball or finding a few go to moves or sweets spots you have to practice maybe watch vidéo.... baseball there are reasons why they have ways of doing thibgs GUILDELINES
