MENTAL HEALTH AND VISANNE (DIENOGEST) MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE MANAGING ENDOMETRIOSIS PAIN | ENDOEMMM

Instagram: endoemmm
I want to first outline that I am not a medical doctor or practitioner - this video is solely based on my personal experience on Visanne (formal name Dienogest) to help manage my endometriosis pain.
Please do not take medication without consulting your doctor first and please do not stop taking your medication without the advice of your doctor.
In this video, I provide a first-hand account of my experience on Visanne - the brand name for Dienogest. Visanne is a progestin dominant pill that is often prescribed to help manage the physical pain associated with endometriosis symptoms. I do want to outline that my personal experience may not be the same for you - as medication may work wonderfully for some individuals and it may not work for others. Our bodies are unique and beautiful, which can translate to having medication not working for some of us and working for others.
If you are experiencing changes in your mental health or physical health after starting medication, specifically Visanne or progesterone dominant medication, please talk to your doctor immediately. It’s important for your medical team to be aware of any changes to your mental and physical health while trialing new medication. A good first step in helping you through this is journaling your symptoms - big and small - while on new medication.
I want you to know that you are not alone in what you are experiencing on Visanne - especially if you are experiencing the same mental health changes that I experienced on the pill. There are amazing resources and support networks in place that can help you through hard and difficult times - you are worthy and deserving of support when you need it.
Here are some amazing Canadian specific support networks for assisting your mental health:

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I'm glad you were able to connect with yourself and determine that visanne was causing your mental health symptoms. I wasn't warned about the possible side effects with visanne and i have struggled with extreme anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts for most of my life. It took a little while for me to make the connection that Visanne was actually worsening my mental health symptoms. Like yourself, my physical symptoms were relieved while taking the medication and returned once i stopped taking it. I haven't gone back to the endo doctor because i don't really trust them after that. Thank you for sharing your story 💖

Hi there! I've taken Visanne July of 2022 post 4th failed IVF. It worked great, I was pain free and helped shrunk my endo. However, the only down side I experienced hair fall, I was shocked I didn't go bald. I didn't experience depression maybe because I was able to regularly work out. Fast forward to March 2023, we proceeded our 5th round of IVF. 8 months post taking visanne, my endo cysts shrunk and my AMH was great, I got pregnant but I unfortunately miscarried at 8 weeks. It was a very sad experience but looking at the positive side, I got pregnant for the first time. Possibly related to taking Visanne that helped manage my endometriosis.

I don’t know the whole story but saying someone could be happier on Visanne because they‘d have less physical pain isn’t a bad thing to say, in my opinion. We know that chronical pain makes people depressed as well. If would be trial and error anyone, in terms of mental health. But I don’t know the situation and the way he spoke so I don’t want to invalidate your experience. Thank you for sharing your story!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I started visanne back in January and watching this has kind of opened my eyes on things I’ve been going through. I unfortunately started visanne at the same time I started taking gabapentin so it made it hard to distinguish which of them was causing the side effects. I felt great the first few days, literally like all the tension and tightness had disappeared, but then after 5/6 days the pain came back and was even worse. I had trouble falling asleep, felt my mind was racing all the time and just had really sad/miserable thoughts. I’d cry randomly during the day for no reason and it scared me. But then again it’s so hard to say what was causing all of that because dealing with the pandemic, a recent death, a horrible semester of school, and my family not understanding my pain could have all contributed to that. I eventually phoned my pharmacist and she recommended I slowly stop gabapentin. I didn’t feel as emotional after, but my pain was still there and the intrusive thoughts and insomnia haven’t gone away. I just thought it was the stress of school and my usual anxiety and depression being annoying. I’ve thought about stopping visanne for a while but I’ve been terrified about having my period again because I don’t know what to expect if the pain is so bad with visanne. And with school I couldn’t find a good time to stop and see what happens, but I think I might give it a go later in December and see if I feel better. Unfortunately my gynaecologist is not as great as everyone thinks she is and hasn’t been helpful at all, but I’m glad someone mentioned these side effects because I’ve just thought it was me and my bad mental health and not the visanne. Thank you again for sharing your experience! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi had endometriosis surgery 3 weeks ago, surgeon wants me to take Dienogest. I am nearly 40 and already peri menopausal. I am really reluctant to go on dienogest, my pain is manageable but heavy bleeding is my worst symptom, did dienogest help with that? My surgeon said that dienogest can help reduce my endo returning. All the side effects seem awful!

As I am writing this I am very nervous and anxious. :-/ I always have negative thoughts especially about my work. I know it’s a stressful job as a projectmanger but I don’t recognize myself anymore. I am on Dienogest for 6-7 weeks now. I do not have Endo pain. It was found by chance. Back then I lived a happy live no knowing I am having Endo. Now we wanted to try this pill to stop ovarian cysts. I told my doctor on Thursday I don’t feel like myself. I am always scared, having cold hands, higher blood pressure and a racing heart while I am on my couch. She told me this is NO side effect and it’s just stress. Wow . I am going to another doctor now…

I'm so proud that you realize that something is a little new with your body to monitor it. If you're not receiving the care and support that you require with your medical journey, it's important to get support from a medical doctor to support you and to provide resources. Yeah, year later it has not come back, but i still had something coming out irregulary and much longer pain than with endo. It made me depressed as heck... no i didnt feel happier. Saw my doctor today that i wanna stop, but she didnt wanna admit any my complaints and tried to find any other reasons for my problems but the pill. I know my body... i can tell something is wrong when i get really bad pain in my knees after a week taking the pill.

I'm so grateful for this video and also how you stated that you know your body best. My family told me my whole life that my excessive period cramps were normal, my doctors didn't offer me anything but the pill until I got sterilized at 25 years old this year - first stage endo. Not bad and sure as hell no explanation for my pain but my operating doctor also suspects that I suffer from Adenomyosis as well. I've been on Zafrilla because after the operation I had severe bloodloss over my two periods and my body wouldn't have been able to handle a third period... I got on Zafrilla which is a Visanne knockoff (same dienogest) and I was so scared... I never wanted to take hormones as I'm suffering from depression and OCD, I also read the pamphlet of the Zafrilla pills and it's stated that doctors should be extremely cautious getting their patients on this medication if they're suffering from depression. I asked my gynecologist, she didn't care. She didn't tell me anything about this medication really (I tried going to 2 other ones, the gyns were also bad, so at the moment I'm still searching for a good one) Fast forward a month and I'm suffering from migraine, bad depression, menopause symptoms (random anxiety, random heat and sweat outbreaks, my heart was beating like crazy at night) and basically almost the whole pamphlet of side effects. It was nothing compared to my menstrual agony but the thought that this is the only thing that could help me is honestly devastating. I stopped taking it. I stopped going to that doctor but it feels like I'm doing nothing. I had an operation, I took the pills. No doctor does a partial hysterectomy at my age and my operation wounds haven't even healed yet.. I'm so sorry to vent but it's so tiring to live and suffer like this and no one even believes your experiences.. So thank you for this video! And for everyone that is scared of taking the Visanne - Every body is different and maybe it helps you! Please try it but also please listen to your body!

I started it and started spotting after 15/17 days then it turned into light bleeding and then it progressed into heavy bleeding on few days with some pain. I live in USA and my doctor told me to stop it. I stopped it and my bleeding continued but the pain went excruciating that I was crying in pain. It was more than contractions. I got visanne from my Dr yesterday, but have now decided not to drink it... I don't want to take any chances. Just a quick one what are you using now for the endometriosis? Any advice

I almost committed suicide on visanne. My doctor didn't even give me a warning on what it would do to mentally. Even after one year of staying clear from it. I still suffered major depression that led me to quit my job. Worst experience ever.😥

Using dienogest made me think about suicide every day. Unfortunately doctors do not consider at all these side effects. I hope you are in a better place now.
