As a male aerial performer and coach, I encourage more guys to get into it. It's a full body workout and the flexibility training will make you a better athlete overall.

2:35 "ah, nope" : basically me everytime I try something new in the silks

So... This just popped back up on my recommended & reminded me that it's been SIX YEARS since I started silks! I'd wanted to do it since I was a kid but I've never been very athletic (in fact, the exact opposite) and was completely convinced it was way, way beyond my ability. It was you guys making THIS VIDEO that gave me the confidence I needed to actually do it and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm the strongest & fittest I've ever been (which isn't saying much, lol), I've done things I never thought I'd be able to do, and made some lifelong friends along the way. Thankyou for being hilarious and real and showing me I didn't need to be amazing to start - I just needed to start!

Ashley Rule lol your skin starts to toughen after a little bit just make sure you get a teacher that understands that when it started to hurt you need a break. After each class we always were able to just be in a cocoon like position in the silks to relax. It's mostly the vertical vines that hurt.

+Ashley Rule I have been doing aerials for almost 6 years now and at first you do get bruised and sore, but you get tougher skin and you get more flexible after awhile of practice. it's also really fun and people get so scared even though if you are doing it correctly nothing bad would happen. (my profile picture is 3 years old, and I'm on the silk in the picture)

No, definitely not a tree! Rigging from trees has the potential to be super dangerous (drops put a lot more force on the rigging than you'd expect). The silks are hanging from a metal frame made specifically for aerial rigging. You can see the legs of the frame on the edges of most shots.
