Men's Four Rowing Final Replay - London 2012 Olympics

Full coverage of the men's four rowing final from Eton Dorney as part of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Rowing has been staged at all the editions of the Olympic Games, except in 1896 in Athens. It was, however, on the programme, but a stormy sea compelled the organisers to cancel the events.
Women made their debut at the Games in 1976 in Montreal. They competed in a smaller programme. The Olympic Games in 1996 in Atlanta marked the introduction of the lightweight events.

    Alex gregory from the gb men's four is a fantastic rower. His technique is fluent and precise, he is very tall with long arms and legs and so has an incredible length, and he hammers off the erg as well! A perfect rower

    The GB crew got to choose lane because they qualified fastest in the heats… Aussies put in a full effort and qualifies first which lane would you want. The wind was actually a crosswind that all had to negotiate the lane 6 had the most shelter.

    Wow, I just watched some footage of the 2011 GB 4-. What a shame they had to rip them apart, and just because Hodge and Reed were being annihilated by the kiwi pair. I think this GB 4- with Reed and Hodge wouldn't have won this race if they hadn't had lane advantage... Aussies getting so much more out of their (less powerful) strokes.

  • @samuelscarisbrick6189

    yea I completely agree with you! the 2011 GB 4- was far slicker than the olympic 4- Reed and Hodge pretty much ruined what the 2011 4- did and rebuilt it around them. Don't get me wrong they are great athletes but weren't the best fit in my opinion. Greogory rows really nicely and relaxed but I would say Eric and Hamish are the future of sweep oar. They were on another level to the rest of the olympic crews in any event.

    Rowing isn't about looking pretty all the time it's about who puts the power down best, examples of this are Abingdon boats in the past decade just some big boys ripping it through

    Jason Arteaga Alex is actually right, on the day of the race they changed the order of priority lanes. Usually its the middle lanes to the fastest qualifiers(lanes 5,4,6). But because there was a constant side breeze from the side closest to camera, they changed the order of lanes to fit the fastest qualifiers which were GB lane 6, USA 5, then AUS 4. If it was even conditions could have been a slightly different race. But at the end of the day, its an outdoors sport and stuff like this happens and you just need to deal.

  • @alexventisei

    @alexventisei

    9 жыл бұрын

    Biggyfootrules This is nothing new, in all regattas they change the lanes to suit the fastest qualifiers (or the highest placing ones) GB had a right to be in a faster lane, even if it was only faster by 0.1 of a second

  • @Garwen1976

    @Garwen1976

    9 жыл бұрын

    Biggyfootrules So that is nothing whatsoever to do with "home course advantage" which doesn't exist in rowing and everything to do with the team who qualified fastest getting the best lane. Had Australia qualified fastest, they would of been in lane six. As an aside, prior to the race, the Australian crew had very big mouths about how they were the best etc etc. Well, typical Australian sportsmen, they fail to back it up on the day.

    There’s a chance GB won this because of the lane they were given. Wind had been playing havoc with outside lanes during the regatta. GB were given lane 1 which was essentially sheltered From wind the entire way while Australia and others had to deal with wind.
