Oil should go last because it stops the moisturiser going into your hair. Think about when you mix oil and water, the oil is barrier that stops it from mixing so all that moistures you’re putting on isn’t going to last. However if you put oil last (lco method) you lock in the moisture!!!! Well done!!! Thanks for showing men how to take care of themselves !! ;)

You made a interesting point. What I learned over the years is that it mostly depends on the individuals hair. A person with type 4 hair can have more definition than a person with type 3 hair. I use a dime size amount of oil & conditioner once a week on my hair and plain water the other days. My hair right now is super defined with small tube coils and springy coils. They resemble finger coils or comb twist but it's my natural curl pattern.

You probably have low porosity hair meaning it’s harder for moisture to get into your stands.

  • @the-vr4ek

I have low porosity hair . My hair has very tight 4c/4b coiled hair. Heat works very well for me. Deep condition your hair once a week. After shampoo, I use a high moisturizing deep conditioner and put a heating cap on for at least a half hour(I might do this for two hours). I rinse, then use a high moisturizing leaven in conditioner. I then put in a oil for a sealant. After that I add a cream. Lastly I use a styling gel. It’s a lot of work but my hair becomes very moisturized. But the key for low porosity hair is indirect heat and moisturizing.

@@nickhummer07 hey Chris. Well certain products won’t work well with your hair texture. So it’s trial and error. I went through a lot of products before I was able to know what works for my hair. What might help is figuring out the texture of your hair and the porosity. Your description of your hair sounds like it more course maybe 4c. My hair is in between 4c and 4b. So I wet my hair and use a leave in moisturizer like Mielle. (But like I said, what works for me, might not work for you. So try a few things.) After l put in the moisturizer, I put a Light weight oil on top (grape seed oil or argon oil). The oil acts as a sealant. Then after the oil I add a little moisturizing cream. I use Camille Rose curl cream. Then I put on a heating cap. Low porosity hair works well with indirect heat. It helps absorb the moisturizer. I recommend watching all of the amazing natural hair videos here on KZread. They really do help. Also I by no means am an expert. It’s all about learning and trial and error. Hopes this helps

Puumaaya Tahiru well some weeks I do it almost everyday but I don’t recommend u do that cause ur scalp could be affected by too much water. When that happens it builds up and literally makes a coating and traps your hair giving you a bold spot so you have to go and take medicine to remove it. Instead if your hair changes what it looks like when you sleep the get a spray bottle and wet the top or tips of your hair and only do the finger process or you could use a cup of water and flick it but whatever works. Anyways do that but had minimal amount of water and try to stop it from getting to your scalp everyday and instead oil your scalp frequently
