Can i just say that it takes massive balls what Kevin Borlee did. He didnt run his race according to what other runners did, he knew what pace was optimal and he kept to the plan, despite gold going away at a fast pace, just because he knew what he could do, and what he couldnt. And guess what, it paid off in the end

The Spaniard went out way too fast in his first 300m, you knew he was gonna pay for it.

In defence of Bruno Hortelano, the last leg of the Spanish 4x400 relay team, it has to be said that he is more, or actually, a 100 and 200 sprinter... He barely could advance and rise his knees in the last 30 meters when he was about to win the race, but he was "hit" by the lactic acid and completely worn out after running the first 200 too fast. He could not advance, dramatically lost his speed and managed to arrive 3rd, not even running but almost walking, just because his powerful mental will, because his muscles did not respond (that is what happens when the "Lactic Acid sniper" hits you: muscles do not respond and you barely can advance or even rise your knees). And he could have perfectly fall down 20 meters before the Finnish line. Only his will avoided that and allowed him to finish the race, though he could not win, but finish 3rd. He probably did run too fast the first 200 meters, but that is because Hortelano does not run many 400 races. Only as a way to improve his endurance, as a training method for the 200m; and thus he had less experience managing the effort in a complicate race to run as is the 400. He is good at the 400, but as far as I know, in 2018 and as of today he is more, or actually, a 100 and 200 sprinter.

Spain would have won if Hortelano ran a 200 with less power, and finished strong the last 100. He is not running a 300 meters anchor leg, but 400.

Wtf was Duane Cowan doing for Britain on that second leg for Britain? The outgoing runner for Britain is in lane 4 or 5 and Cowan is still in lane 1 with yards to go. They lost yards there and with it any chance of a gold medal.

Despite that Bruno Hortelano could not win the race with the Spanish 4x400m national team, because of the "Latic Acid Sniper" apparently, he is a very good athlete. If I recall well, his personal Best in 100, 200 and 400 are: 10:06, 20:04, and 44:68. Bruno Hortelano, 200m European Gold Medal in 2016, is an overall very good sprinter, but you can not run many 400m races in 44 if you do not run many -or barely- 400 races, to start with. Despite that, due to his quality he has been included in the 4x400 relays Spanish national team several times, and have won some World/European medals with them. He is undoubtedly a high quality/calibre sprinter. Not many athletes can be as good in the 3 distances: 100, 200 and 400. In my opinion, if he is in good shape and "catch" the good races he could be able and has quality enough to go under 10 in the 100; to go under 20 in the 200, and below 44'5 or even below 44 in the 400; only that you need the coincidence of several circumstances for this to happen.

The spannish runner blew himself in the first 200m's and that's deadly in a 400m... It's mainly about Saccoor holding of world champion and pulling away in his final straight en Kevin Borlée with an excelent 400m's experience... (not going along the spaniard in the first 200m to be able to keep the pace on the home straight)

@@daninio5004 In Spains defense Hortelano is a 200m specialist. His best 400 is 44 BUT he's only run that once and even though imo it's questionable because he's been running 46s every year and then randomly busts out a 44?? Either way I think they tried to frontload the relay and have their slowest leg anchor, get out hard and try to hold on to a big lead but that won't work when you have multiple anchors that can run 44 in the OPEN let alone split 43 on the relay. Spain would have won if maybe they led off with Hortelano and Husillos Anchor.

@@user-ki4xw2rb8q yeah he's run 44.6 ONCE in 2018...and that's the only time he has broken 46. Every year (2013, 2014, 2015, 2019) outside of 2018 he has yet to break 46. So even though he may have ran 44.6 that year I wouldnt trust him on anchor as he jumped two seconds in one Year its not consistent. BUT as you were correct I edited it.
