I truly believe that in that period of time it may have been hard, but not impossible when you love somebody no matter who they are or what color they are and truly love them, you will fight for them, so much more could have been done back then if just one person stood up and step forward, could you imagine the lives that would have been saved and spared pain cowards

I’m mixed, black and white. People always believe that no one would want a mixed race wife. Many did. My family history is proof of that. Was it difficult? Absolutely! However, with money and a respectful family backing? Many men would in those times.

I love this movie , but it’s not factual!
I love that Elizabeth never turned on her Black sister, Dido, in a society, that tells her she is better and afforded more opportunity. Elizabeth saw and treated Dido as her equal and protected her, never making her feel "less than". I fully expected the storyline to have them turn on one another in that societal class and racial divide, but I was pleasantly surprised and touched when they didn't. ❤️❤️

Just an FYI. This is a true story so the main "storyline" stuck to actual events. Elizabeth at one point did treat her cousin Dido unfairly, but they eventually made up. Though not to the same extent as Dido, Elizabeth faced prejudice in the marriage market for not having enough money.
The way Belle hit herself and clawed at her face broke my heart 💔. That's deeper than what anyone can imagine.

This movie was heavily romanticized. He loved his daughter but there is still questions of whether or not he loved her mother. Some people say he set her up in a house in Florida and some people say that he never did such a thing and sold her instead. Didos mother was a West Indies slave so why would he set her up in a house in Florida???
@siewheilou399
Жыл бұрын
Did her mother died? Was her mother his slave or did he just rented her for a few nights? Then the true owner informed him that the girl he rented had given birth to a baby girl, asking him would he like to buy that baby girl? And maybe it was just followed by a series of serendipitous events, that somehow this man actually accumulated a substantial amount of money, and he actually had it registered that Dido was his daughter, so by default she inherited his money. The fact that he did not see much of her is a hint.

You are right, but just because one person suffers more doesn't mean the other doesn't suffer. It's like saying someone with a broken leg shouldn't complain because another person has lost their leg. In the movie Elizabeth just had a moment of being human. When we hurt we only see that. She is a good person and it doesn't last long. That doesn't make it right, but it's just the way most humans are at one time or another. She loved Dido with all her heart and one moment of pain doesn't destroy that.

This movie did the real life of Dido a grave injustice, and needs to be remade in a way that truly reflects her life and the indignities she suffered. It's a disgrace and a derelection of responsibility to portray a true historical figure, especially one of rare mixed parentage in this time period, so untruthfully. I advise everyone to read the Wikipedia about Dido. The real Dido was not loved equally by her family. She was not left any inheritance by her father, and Lord Mansfield left her very little on his death, barely enough to afford a servant of her own. No good marriage was secured for her. She was treated very well in comparison to other children of slaves, but if you read the real history, it becomes apparent that she was still treated as lesser than. She deserved that story of her life to be told truthfully.
I still struggle to differentiate black and White people... I know how to say whether someone is dark skinned or light skinned...but I don't get people say someone is black when his skin colour is actually brown or tan ...and how do you assume someone is white when he is visibly cream coloured 😅😅 lol ..I may sound dumb but I only use three skin tones dark ,light and fair....my skin is yellowish so I assume that I'm fair skinned ...😁😁😁 Note: This not for making fun of others , not a joke at all...
I will never think less of myself no matter what color I am
I love how they broke it down
I love that art has imitated life. It sounds like an endearing story. My heritage involves a Royal Erejuwa 1 who lived in the 18th Century and set up court in Portugal and Nigeria. He married a Portuguese noblewoman. He was from the Warri Kingdom which also experienced exploitatation of its people sold as slaves by our African ancestors (to my shame, my family included). The subject of discrimination is never easy but what breaks barriers is understanding which enlightens. I hope the movie expresses this without fear of smothering the truth.

nah! it's 99% fake opposite of real life Dido, who irl was broke and married a servant when she was age 32 spinster..... then died 11 years later... yeah no! great great great fantasy
that one caught me by surprise honestly. never heard anyone say mulato was a racist term until now. puertorican history teachers must be afraid to get cancelled talking about our history xD
I only watched this movie for Tom at first but then I began to actually like it.

tell her that this movie was fake! Real Elizabeth Murray was filthy rich! her father 7th Viscount Stormont arranged so eventually she will have 30000 pound!! the same amount as the richest duke in England gave his daughter. real Lady Elizabeth Murray married first at age 25 to wealthy gentleman heir to Earl of Winchilsea and Earl of Nottingham. her father loved Elizabeth so much she inherited the most money than his other children. it's possible that he bestow her mother's wealth to her in real life, dido married later at 32 to a Servant called John. she also had no money lol!! she only got 500 pound from her great uncle, a tiny fraction compared to what Elizabeth got. also Dido's father left her nothing! he only had 1000 pound and it was given to his other 2 illegitimate children Elizabeth Lindsay/palmer and John Lindsay also Lady Elizabeth and Dido belle was 2nd cousin, their parents are 1st cousin.
Belle I still watch it great story

I've seen the movie (I think it was on KZread). It's a sweet movie based on a true story. Worth seeing. And better than the computer generated voice!

that this movie is 100% fake. In reality, Dido had a creep for a father, he rapd a 14 yo child slave (Dido's mother) he continued to 4 black women having 4 more children, he was a rpist and a scoundrel, he actually left Dido NOTHING so Dido was BROKE. (he actually died in 1788, Elizabeth already had 2 kids by then) Dido married in 1793 when she was 32 to a servant. now in real life, Lady Elizabeth was the heiress, her father loved her like he loved her mother, which he deemed his true love, her father and her uncle in total gave her a huge fortune of £40,000 which generated £2,000 a year . Elizabeth married an Aristocrat with wealth of £20,000 a year. no sign they kept in touch since Dido ruined herself by marrying servant whom elizabeth should hire not dine with
This is ridiculous! Who in their right mind would take a his small daughter to the home of another with the intention of leaving her in their care, without discussing the issue with the other person first?

in those days it was very common to leave your child in the household of another gentile family. The girls would be companions for the lady of the house and wealthier relatives could provide an education and social opportunities for less wealthy ones. Tutors and governesses could be shared. The parents wouldn't be involved much as they had staff to raise the kids.

seeing a room full of men with ridiculous curled white wigs is kinda funny XDDD It's like some cult
She's not black though. Half black which makes her equal portions white and black. So she's also white. How can you be black if you're half of something but not white when you're equally white? If a cheese cake that's one layer chocolate cake not a cheese cake?

Who do you think came up with the one drop rule that persists to this day? Sure, she is biracial and is closer to perceived Whiteness, but ultimately, she's seen by most non-BIPOCS as an n-word. An exotic one, but the n-word nonetheless.
