Once you've created a memory palace to organize the scripture verses, it's now time to "encode" each verse on a specific location in the palace. Listen as Josh shares the mnemonics, stories and other methods to encode all eleven verses of Psalm 46 to a single hole on a golf course. Learn the memory palace method...and memorize Psalm 46 while you're doing it!

Thank you Josh!! Your pictures are so helpful! It would be wonderful if you could do a video on more of your abstract common words, like “therefore, they, that ect” that you have turned into pictures, and it was so helpful hearing how you put all of this together, it makes it very easy to follow.

I'm fairly new to Christianity (I was a hardcore atheist until a few years ago) and I'm really fascinated by the idea of memorising large parts of the Bible. I started to learn Latin a couple of months ago and have been really struggling to remember vocabulary but I have started to memorise parts of the Vulgata (small parts for now) so I have something to repeat and, thus, try to learn vocabulary in context. But also because I was very drawn to something that has been mentioned a few times in your videos - that memorising whole books, or at least large sections of the Bible, forces you to notice and think more deeply about the words. I'm very encouraged by what you and your guests show is possible with some real commitment. Great work!

@@BibleMemoryGoal Thank you - I hope so too. Do you find that this memorisation technique gets easier/more efficient the more you use it? A number of years ago I tried to use a memory technique that was either the same as, or very similar to, the one that you use in the video to memorise pi to a few hundred decimal places (ironically I can't remember exactly what the technique was). It worked really well for numbers but then when I tried to use the technique to remember the content of some presentations that I was giving fairly regularly at the time I couldn't seem to get the technique to work so well and I'm thinking that maybe I just wasn't patient enough and didn't really give it a proper chance to work. Anyway, I ended up just going for a brute-force method of memorising words/text but I can see how just using brute-force alone may be very limiting.

@@johnfletchervideos The better I master the technique I like using, the more efficient it gets, but it still takes a lot of mental energy and focus to memorize something.

I don't use this method as extensively as you do Josh, but "silly associations" do work well for me in certain portions which I find difficult. For example, since I memorize in KJV, I have trouble remembering when it is "saith" and when it's "said". In Mark 2:5 two words prior to "said" is the word "faith" - - so it's tempting to say "saith" because of the similarity. What I do is to remember the word "bed" in the preceding verse so I know it's "said".😊 Similarly, in Mark 2:17 two words before "saith" is "heard" so it's tempting to say "said" because of the "D" ending. So I make an effort to take my cue from the words "eateth and drinketh" in the verse before, so I'll remember in verse 17 it's "saith". Just small stuff like that. What mainly works well for me in memorizing is the first letters of the words--a feature I use in the app VerseLocker.🙂 -Sharlene

@Pianista Sola Scriptura Hi, hope you can share here, too, as I am also interested to hear how you go about memorizing. I've memorized 1 John, as well, and am working with a group on Ephesians (we seem to be stuck at chapter 4 😕). Concurrently, I am attempting to memorize my first gospel and have completed 5 chapters of Mark, so far. I like learning from others, so would love to hear about your method. Thanks. -Sharlene

Thank you for this demonstration. It was helpful. After watching you, I’m thinking that it’s too many things happening if you use all those images to each spot. What I mean is, one spot per verse might be to busy for me. I’ll probably split a verse into 2 places or 3. Some verses are too chunky to fit in one place, I think.

You mentioned that you use some words that you will always associate with a picture, like God is the perfect ball, and fork is "therefore". Do you have a listing of these type of words/associations that we could get in PDF like you had this Psalm 46? I would be really interested in taking a look at it, since I'm just getting started, and just like getting a palace prepared ahead of time, I could see that having some associations planned for repetition would be helpful.
