I've watched television shows on specific years, and must admit that your "Memories" series is better than any produced by any network. I was 11 years old in 1969 and was beginning to be aware of life around me, so this was a real blast to watch. Thanks so much for these wonderful pieces you've put together. 1969 was a seminal year for our world, our nation and for many of us, as individuals. Saw my first concert --- Joplin at the San Diego Sports Arena, not long before she passed. Held my breath with everyone else, as we first landed on the moon. Cried of the Manson murders. Saw the power of people coming together for good. Saw good people lost for no good reason. It was, as they say, the best of times and the worst of times.

I mentioned this in another vid, but I was 4 in '69, and these are some of my earliest memories that "stuck" in my head. In particular I remember the moon landing. I was living with my grandparents at the time (my parents split up for a couple years after I was born - don't worry; they got back together after a short time and remained together for the rest of their lives), and I used to get up when my grandfather got up for his early morning job. He got up a bit early that day, because all the broadcasts were on Eastern time and we were in California, so he was up and about at 3:00AM to watch the coverage of the actual landing - we'd watched the launch three days earlier together too, but I don't recall that very well, mostly because it was the same thing I'd seen on TV all my short life. But when they landed, my grandfather started to cry. He was old enough to have been a teenager when the Wright brothers flew, and now he was seeing humans landing on the moon. Of course, I was too young to understand why this was so emotional to him, but I remember being worried and him trying to explain it to me. BTW - I love these videos; subbed!

Was 15 and can't believe how much has changed and stayed the same. What's totally shocking is what happened to my generation, the baby boomers. Some how along the way, we lost our direction. Remember the moon landing. Have been by the house of the Manson horror. Woodstock was one of the top events of the 20th century. The main question is how in the hell did we end up in this altered world we exist in now??

I wonder the same thing all the time! It's hard to imagine how/why the boomers story arc developed to what it is now. And what that might mean for other generations. I mean boomers were going to change the world for the better. I can't think of another generation with more motivation to make the world a better place. And look where that's ended up.

I turned 11 that year, the last year w/my beloved grandpa (he died the following March), he paid for our family's vacation in DC, I remember watching the moon landing in July at a hotel while visiting relatives out of town, my dad tried to keep me awake to watch it, but it was late at night & I was too tired. Went to see Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, a smash hit that year, still one of my favorite movies. I loved my TV shows: Bewitched (Dick York was replaced that year by Dick Sargent; the show was never the same), Dark Shadows, Rowan & Marin game shows, the Brady Bunch premiered that fall, as did Sesame Street. I was too old for it but liked to watch the Muppets. The Mets finally won a World Series, the Jets won the Super Bowl (my grandpa was there in Miami when the Jets upset the Colts, he liked all the NY teams, so he was happy w/the Mets & Jets in '69), I vaguely remember Chappaquiddick--overshadowed by the moon landing the same weekend, but not for long--the Manson murders and Woodstock. Hurricane Camille hit Mississippi, killing over 200 people, Nixon's inauguration. Started listening to the radio later that year and recall hearing "Sugar, Sugar," "Aquarius," "In the Year 2525" and "Spinning Wheel." And, of course, Saturday morning cartoons. Bugs & friends were always a favorite for many years, but I also liked the Archies & George of the Jungle. Oh, to be young again!

Anthony!!!! We all got a kick out of that one for some reason. Elizabeth Montgomery, man, did I have a crush on her. I had completely forgotten about Bobby Sherman. My sister had pictures of him and later David Cassidy on her wall. I know I blacked out the teeth on one of em just because that's what little brothers did I suppose. My sister and I did see Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at the theater. That old theater is still around. It was restored by a historical society and they show classic movies there I'm told. And the Galloping Gourmet. I had forgot about him too. My Dad was a blue-collar guy who worked on the docks, tough as nails, but he loved that show. And his spaghetti sauce was legendary in the neighborhood. It was a bit different each time because it also included a bottle of scotch for the cook. And then there was the Moon landing. That was the event of the decade for us Apollo kids. I remember sitting on the floor with my brother, both of us having our Lunar Module models with us. Well, mine was the cardboard version because he was great at putting models together and I pretty much sucked at it. The only thing missing was a shout-out to Abbey Road, the final Beatle album and a record that changed the way I listened to music and my life for that matter. I gave up my dreams of being an astronaut and was going to be a rock star! I started out as a drummer, until Dad got home the day I got my first drum kit and said, "oh hell no." Picked up the guitar after that. Bounced around the club scene for a bit until I finally got into my head that I wasn't going to be the next John Lennon. They had shot him by that time anyway so there was that aspect to throw a damper on it. Playing baseball and going to the amusement park down the street in the summer, football in the fall, street hockey and sledding at the golf course in the winter. To borrow from Archie, those were the days. It blows my mind it was so long ago. I feel for kids today who don't seem to dream big dreams like we did. Maybe it's because we don't do big things like the Moon mission, and now they are messing that all up as they try to recapture a past that ain't coming back. Cool vid. Nice trip down memory lane, to a time when I was still young enough to believe I could be, well damn near anything.

Were they on after, like the spaghetti commercial, I remember it exactly how it was shown here. It's hard to believe that was aired in '69! Great memories. Even though I was only in first grade, I remember so many of these things. This was great! Thanks so much, Johnny!
