    I will always cherish the memory of the one time I saw Doc and Merle in concert: at Van Wezel Hall in Sarasota, FL, in 1977. Some wannabe good old boys were up in the balcony making a racket, and Doc smiled, turned his sightless eyes in their direction, and said, "Now you boys up there settle down. I remember my first beer too." Silence prevailed instantly!

    I'm just getting into playing some real Bluegrass these days and Doc Watson is right up my street, genuine and authentic and talented. He's exactly what I've been looking for. He's an inspiration to folk like me who are just finding out about the genuine Bluegrass tradition. Love it! 🤓🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🎶🎸

    Here’s a true story. Ralph Stanley looked at that photo of Doc and said: “Look here, Doc is trying to look like Abe Lincoln.” I resisted the urge to tell him that Doc most likely didn’t know how Lincoln looked or for that matter how Doc looked.

    On the album cover of "Square Deal in Nashville" Doc is holding a hand of poker cards as if he were reading them, and on the cover of "Docabilly" he is driving the convertible.

    Bill Sikes So many of the versions on here are the best ones I've heard by Doc. The band is also so, so good. It's a fabulous album. I havena heard quite all of his albums, but it's the best of all that I have head, and own.

    What is the relationship between Wabash Cannonball and Woody Guthrie's Farmer Labor Train?

  • @ProfesserLuigi

    @ProfesserLuigi

    4 жыл бұрын

    Wabash Cannonball is the original, far as I can find. Woody Guthrie was, as per Pete Seeger, really good at taking a tune and putting new words in them. Even his most famous song "This Land is Your Land" is based on the music of "Little Darling, Pal of Mine", changed just a bit. Of course, this is not to diminish Woody any. Frankly, his renditions often improved upon the originals.
