1950’s nostalgia was going HARD in ‘88. Kind of makes sense. Typically nostalgia runs about 25-30 years behind, and nowadays, 90’s styles are coming back.

Reagan started the War on Drugs. the First Lady, Nancy Reagan, had a Just Say No campaign. the result was lots of PSAs to get all those meddling kids off drugs. did it work? well, weed is legal now in several states including my home state of CA. even psychedelics are now being touted for having great medicinal benefits. but what we did get out of the bargain was some very earnest but wacky anti-drug PSAs.

Loved the ads Dave! My husband and I were talking as we were watching this. The PSA on anti-drug war was strong then. He remembers his school brought in a local K9 and planted a bag of marijuana in the gym somewhere to show how easy it is to find it. Buttons at my school were handed out with JUST SAY NO printed on them. Also we were talking the ads of today are mostly electric cars and pharmaceutical ads which identifies the mental health crisis of today. Also the grocery food ads (a.k.a the Duncan Hines cake ad for example) aren't around much unless it's a really big name. It's mainly electric cars and pharmacy meds. A few McDonald's and fast food. That's about it. This collection brought back some memories. See ya tomorrow night!

9:11 - 10:08 It must've have been the music, but just *knew* that was going to be a anti-drug ad. "When you don't say 'no' to your kids about drugs, it's the same as saying 'yes'", isn't supposed to be funny, but it's damn hilarious. They went unnecessarily hard on commercial jingles in the 80s and I respect it. 12:24 Bro, that's a parrot not a goddamn red-tailed hawk. 18:18 - 18:32 As soon as I saw the innocent little kid's drawing I knew it was going to be something bad, but, Jesus, that got dark. 22:49 - 23:13 Yet another unintentionally hilarious anti-drug PSA.
