I've never used spray. When I hit puberty back in the 1980's I used roll on and then as I got older I went to the kind that is gel and came through the holes when you rolled the bottom...after that I went to gel sticks and solid sticks that dry clear. Been sticking with those ever since.

Having "choices" is one thing... Um, you just got me going. There's actually a lot more "things"... 1.) Let's say that you're going through puberty and you've never bought deodorant. Never seen any commercials. Haven't asked friends. Just going through every single tube at the pharmacy takes how long? You might like to take a sniff at everyone of them. By the time you're at the end of the aisle, forget about it - my nose is numb. I can't smell anything. Maybe I should just go to the air freshener section and dab some oil as 'eau de toilette' too or pour hot wax over my armpits. 2.) Also has to do with packaging. Take a suburban large supermarket for instance. You look down the aisle from one end. Gesus-Begesus... Did I fell into a warp tunnel and landed in Alice's Wonderland? 3.) Then it's the advertising of the "choices" we have. Just because that a celebrity is on it; a super-hot model making love with the camera; to over-sized font/lettering all mixed with a bunch of other fonts and sizes for a phrase within a page layout to make a bold statement. Only the the large print caught my attention really and just that doesn't convince me to try out the product. Besides, t thought I'm slapped with a hate-flyer on me if I carry it around.

In the Netherlands no toothpaste tube is sold in box. However, we seem to be able to put all useful information onto the tube. I never have problems with squashed tubes, but you can prevent this by putting it on top of your other groceries, I think. About the stacking: place them vertically, cap down, and put them in the shelf. Guess I'm too Dutch to see any advantages of a box... :P

Jlnkht Since I was born in America and raised here...well there are far too many brands to do what you guys do. If they placed them vertically cap down it would take forever and you could not read the box to get the brand you wanted. There are literally hundreds of brands. I never realized other countries didn't have so many brands to choose from as we do. When you work in a store and have to put things on the shelf for the customers it is all about speed and precision. If they had to try to balance toothpaste tubes on the cap end it would take all day.. Ridiculous I know but it is the way it is.

The majority of deodorants in the UK are spray. It burns the pitts and the throat. LOL

Most people use a stick, gel, or paste/creme type stuff here. Is the spray aerosol or just pressurized? If it's aerosol it makes sense we don't use them here because they are bad for the environment.

Aerosols, generally. But then the US typically care less about the environment than the UK do, so that reasoning doesn't make much sense. I think that we used to use roll on deodorants more commonly, but now we've sort of modernised into using sprays. They're more convenient, you don't have to worry about staining your clothes, you don't even have to wait for it to dry after using.

Well actually where I live certain types of aerosol cans are banned because they are bad for the environment. How eco friendly people are in the us depends on where you are. Here in California, especially southern california, people are much more eco friendly than some people in the midwest that don't care at all and just drive their diesel trucks and pretend not to believe in global warming to justify it. As an environmentalist I don't usually use aerosol cans especially not ones with CFC's.

Yes but the US is a country and I'm talking about your country as a whole. I'm sure that there are counties within the UK which are more economically inclined than others. Wales charge for plastic shopping bags, for example. It's the same in most countries, just the US is a lot bigger. See, you say where you live is very eco-friendly, but Southern California most likely use more air conditioning, than the whole of the UK. Things even up, no matter how hard you try to justify each side.
