Sudan and Ethiopia are to the east of Greece Homer lived in Asia Minor, which was still Greek controlled at the time. At this time the Kushites king piye conquered Egypt and parts of Libya. The epic concerning memnon were written during the reign of King taharqa the African king who ruled egypt and kush. That’s why memnon is referred to as the Ethiopian king who ruled over egypt. @@Bobbfj you are confused. Memnon does NOT exist in African history mythology or culture. The kingdom of Aethiopia in Hellenic mythology is at the far East not South . Herodotus would later change the location of Aethiopia from East to South of Egypt and Libya.

Esarhaddon the Assyrian king who lived during the time of homer wrote in his own records about deporting all Aethiopians from Egypt. He was talking about black skinned Africans when using that term over 300 years before Herodotus time.

In Greek mythology, Memnon (Greek: Mέμνων) was an Ethiopian king and son of Tithonus and Eos. As a warrior he was considered to be almost Achilles' equal in skill. At the Trojan War, he brought an army to Troy's defense and was killed by Achilles in retribution for killing Antilochus. He is an Ethiopian king. Ethiopia has big histories like this, but is not given much credits.

Well you are Wrong. First of all Ethiopia didn't exist as a country back then like we know it now. The word is Aethiopis. Aethiopis is a Hellenic word used by Hellens only, to describe the people living South of Egypt because of there black skin complexion. It is not a country. Aethiopis means Burnt Face. The people living there didn't call themselves Aethiopians. Secondly Memnon is not described being an Aethiopis black or African hero. No one describes Memnon being Aethiopis. He is NOT in African or Ethiopian history mythology or culture. Glad I could help.

Memnon's parents are Tithonus a prince of Troy brother to Priam king of Troy and Eos a Titaness in the Hellenic pantheon who LEFT Troy and TRAVELED to her domain to the East ➡️. The Mythical kingdom of Aethiopia has nothing to do with Africa. And in the epic poems Memnon is given an armor forged by Hephaestus.
