I've melted 24k gold and put into into a casting mold of a skull... polished it, labeled it, and it looks freaking beast in my wooden treasure chest. It was made from the purest gold... with my left over gold, I melted the rest and made a thick gold button for my cufflink. It is beautiful.

@@Brandon-qe5qs I recommend the graphite molds, I think I saw harbor freight selling em. Even if they only last a few castings it's probably worth it at their prices. You could try what I've tried, (epically failing). Make your own molds. My best success was using a clay sand mix I found on KZread, using styrofoam as the mold with the hot liquid metal vaporizing the foam. I just can't get the heat right making the molds in my oven. It's something you'll always know, how to make your own castings/molds but it takes practice.

If you use borax and move the torch around it will melt faster and help with impurities. Also, gold scratches easily so you lost weight on that wheel. We all start somewhere and im by far no expert. I enjoyed your video. Just trying to help you out.

Inquart with silver. Use nitric acid to remove everything but the gold. Then filter off the nitric. Put the gold in aqua regia with a few ml of sulfric acid then filter again. Drop the gold with smb then filter out the 24 karat gold. Melt the gold in your melt dish.

I left the place thinking about why they held some back. Later I called to find out why some of the gold was held back. I was told that it was the borax part. Doesn't borax disepate during the smelting process? I somehow feel I got scammed. Please help.

Borax usually floats on top, and can be removed with muriatic acid. Did they refine the gold? If so, the base metal elements of the alloy will have been taken out, reducing the final bar size.
