I showed my husband the start of your video and said “this guy is good you should watch with me” he said “but it’s almost half an hour!” He was sucked in after the first few minutes and I think you now have another subscriber 😂 I think your table should be called “meltwater” as it reminds me of a glacial river. PhD in polymer engineering here; you're absolutely correct about the shape memory effect around 18:50. When the epoxy was heated above its glass transition temperature during the sun-assisted shaping stage, the residual stresses in the area around the clamp were "locked in" after it cooled back down. When you sanded it that area was likely heated back above the glass transition temperature and was able to relax again, leaving telltale markings from the clamp due to the shape memory effect!

The favorite part of finding your channel is the fact that you’re not afraid to think outside the box, experiment, and try things that others would poo-poo because “real” woodworkers wouldn’t do that. Creativity and balls, great combination!

Obviously the new table looks more fantastic and perfect, I haven't seen anything like this in my entire life. This is so beautiful. Job well done 👍
That old or new is such an apples vs. oranges question! I love both. Swapping them totally changes the whole space. I’d expect to see the old one next to an old biology professor’s favorite reading chair. The new one belongs next to a pilot’s recliner covered with maps, flight logs, a big mug of coffee and an E6B.
That looks absolutely amazing. The zebra wood leg looks so much better than having an acrylic leg. It adds a natural element that makes the epoxy seem like a waterfall in a jungle.

@@BlacktailStudio Hijacking this comment thread to tag you. With my extremely limited education in my department of mechanical and materials engineering, I do know of the fact that epoxy can be altered to behave in the way you describe in the video. With a high strain inducing plastic deformation (the clamp) being released near the glass transition temperature (usually that a lot higher than 40C but in some cases it can be low) the "permanent" shape is set at the high temp, then when allowed to cool it will take on a "temporary: shape. However, this "permanent" shape is typically only recovered when heated back up to temperatures closer to what the experienced during its formation. I don't believe that event had ever occurred, the only thing I can think of is the sanding, polishing, buffing processes producing large amounts surface heat, thereby replicating those conditions. It's unlikely though. It's more likely that the strain was so excessive that the clamp stamped a shape really deep in there but it would be hard to see without the polished finish. Hard to say. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape-memory_polymer edit. Did you shine a UV light on it for a long period of time? UV can induce this kind of shape rebound as well.

I like this a lot!! What a great name for the table. I also agree that the old table is aesthetically pleasing whereas the new has.. well .. a new vibe! My only issue is that I feel like stuff will slide off easily since it's so curved, so it would really have to be more of a conversation piece than a functional table, which is TOTALLY FINE. For me, though, I would just rather have the more functional table.

New. For sure. I would love to see the same table with square edges. I think it would be so artistic and “edgier.” Couldn’t resist.
The BIG difference that makes me love your work is, that your commentary is not merely talking about what you’re doing, or how, or additional tips, but the entire thought process that goes into your decisions. That is invaluable, and makes me connect in a way one rarely feels on most other channels.
The light caustics it casts on the floor are so good! It's like the look it gives is more than the table itself. It physically interacts with the floor and the other objects in the room. Very fine.

Old and New, both are gorgeous, just for different styles of rooms. So awesome the sun helped make it! The zebra wood was a perfect addition.
The new "Bent Sky" table is utterly fantastic, but the old style wood appeals to me most... Marvelous work, both!
It kind of looks like an abstract art piece of a vintage surf board riding a wave. I really love the choice of the wooden leg, especially the zebra wood, and the way you attached it! For moving purposes I almost wish all furniture could be put together like that 😂 I’m currently in the process of joining 2 wooden bedside table together, back to back, to create a coffee table, and watching your channel for the first time makes me feel slightly less crazy and a lot more hopeful 😊

I really hate it when someone comments you aren’t a real woodworker. I have gotten the commitment a few times that I am not a real artist because I don’t show my art in a gallery. I don’t listen to them and you shouldn’t either. You are great at what you do the labels don’t matter. Keep creating and being curious. I honestly love both but I am mainly a wood gal so I like the old but my hubby would love the new. So if we were in the market for a new side table we would probably compromise on the new since you put wood with it. 😂 gotta compromise when your married 😂
Honestly can't decide between old and new. They're both gorgeous and look good where you had them staged. I also think the name "Seacliff" could work, since it looks almost like an ocean going over the edge of a cliff and also because it reminds me a bit of the type of furniture my grandma had back when she lived in the Seacliff Beach area. It was the 90s, so everything had suuuper rounded edges lol

Doing one specific thing better than everyone else earns that title as long as you do the basic things relatively well. You sir are top notch mastering several. Kudos!
It's usually hard for me to sit all the way through these long wood working videos, even when the end product is very unique or beautiful. Not sure why, but a lot of channels just don't do it for me. This was one of the few times I was actually very interested and sat through the whole thing. I think your commentary really adds a lot to the video! What a lovely table.
Agent 47 welcome to your new job. Nice table awesome ❤
Wow! I'm amazed. It turned out SO beautiful. I think the result was definitely worth the effort. I was surprised to hear that the acrylic slab had cured for a year and half before you tried to bend it. I don't know much about acrylic, so that was incredible to hear. As much as I love the OLD table, I love the NEW table as well. Actually, I think part of the reason I love the NEW table so much is because it was certainly more effort. I think you should update the description to include the name you chose from the comments and who won the table, or at least a link to the video where you tell us. Thank you so much for sharing your work with the world.

Love the blue epoxy table with one wooden leg. The "pirate ☠️ table". Lol It really is gorgeous and I myself would love to own a peice of art work like that.
New! I kinda liked how it looked unsanded - gave it an almost sea glass look, but the shiny finished look is even better! I really love those round edges.
Both old and new... "Sun Kissed" would be good for this style as it isn't color dependent. I like how you don't edit out the flaws, proves how difficult this is but also how you can remedy them.
New! I'm shocked too, because I didn't think I'd ever like a blue table and I remember commenting that I was shocked the blue wood table you did sold for as much as it did (because I'm just not into blues) but that everyone is different and the fact that everyone likes something different is what's great about people (or something like that}. So I'm eating my own words from my previous comment on your blue wood table, because I never thought I'd ever be willing to purchase blue furniture and I would totally buy this! I love how it fades from the dark to the lighter blues. It's gorgeous. You know, a blue bar made in this style would look awesome too! I can imagine it would be a lot of work after all you went through with this. Unless you built a mold ahead of time. Anyway another beautiful piece by you!
My god, I took a punt a clicked this video, looking for something cathartic for my wind-down prior to bed - and i'm hooked! Your work is unbelievable, and you've got a really solid/entertaining narration through the whole process. Really enjoyed this - looking forward to using you as my wind-down fodder in the near future too.
Not a lover of Acrylics myself, but I've got to say you have every right to be proud of this one, it is stunning.
I'm very much a wood traditionalist but watching the process you went thru to create a beautiful acrilic table was truly fascinating. How about calling the table "Blue Water"
new looks actually so cool i feel like it would go perfectly in a room with a lot of aquariums as a theme
Old was a very cool piece. But new is definitely something that I have never seen and I don’t want to stop staring at it. It’s absolute mesmerizing in the way it looks like a waterfall. The wood leg just solidifies the waterfall in nature. Stunning. Next you should just post a video of the table on a turntable just slowly and seductively showing off the beauty of this amazing piece of art. It’s hard to look away. Well done.
New, definitely looks much more modern. Loved the timelapse of the slab "bending" in the sun and the polishing process was just awesome. You are right, it looks more like glass than epoxy.
New, great work!!!! I hope the person lucky enough to get it, loves it just as much as you do!
New table. Learning a lot from the channel
This has to be called the waterfall table! Love it ❤ And I choose old AND new because it's an impossible Sophie's choice, haha.

Yep, waterfall table is what came to my mind when looking at this table.
I'm an int design student and this might be the coolest piece of furniture that I've seen recently, absolutely love it. Kudos to you

Relax. It's literally just a bent square with rounded corners. Aim higher, friend
Bro Sharing your idea. In a public, it's a very simple. And that's. Can make people really excited to your channel. Good luck
New table is SICK man
In the future, you should do a "aurora borealis epoxy-something". Making a northern light in a block of epoxy would be sick! The new table for sure. It's amazing!
Every single time I watch something about Epoxy I get blown away by what kinda beautiful things people can craft with it
