Melting cast iron at home - Element Cube Collection (DIY)
Ғылым және технология
We have reached the seventh cube for the element cube collection: Cast iron! Made from a pair of disc brakes, which was quite a challenge to get melted due to cast iron's high melting point.
As something new the cube is engraved using electro etching, where an electrolyte of vinegar and table salt is used. The power supply is set to 12V and draws around 500-1000 mA. Please remember good ventilation when doing this.

Using the strength of my brother is my favorite type of strength to use.

i bet the strong brother would survive being dunked into the furnace
You can us yellow mustard too, works well to etch iron or steel. Just cut out a stencil smear a layer on and wait about 15 minutes for a dark etch.

Cool, never heard about that technique :)
Thank you for this video. I was surprised by the time involved to melt the cast iron. The electro etching was fascinating to watch. The girlfriend is quite a catch.
Very nice job!
How did you make the steel melting stove and what do you use as fuel?
Thank you for the video and answers in the comments
Nice colection of Metals 👍

Thanks PR Technik - more are to come :)
I think the iron got hardened and more brittle after quenching, you should probably temper it before cutting
What is the name of softens that you put on the melting cast
That’s a cool video 🤘🤘🤘
You should try pouring it into a thin sheet and decarbonizing it to turn it into regular iron. I haven't seen anyone do this.
How much time will taken melting iron bro
Would be great to be able to cast beds for machines like this.
Does anyone know where can I find an iron foundry that could make a cast iron cauldron??
hello, what kind of crucible you use to melt iron? actually i heard about the silicon and graphite crucibles degrades easily when it reaches the 1500°. Thanks for your help

Hi Danycage, we used a sacrificial crucible of unknown brand as this was a one time experiment to see if we could reach high enough temperatures to melt cast iron :)

It's a mistake it says 1538 c that's pure iron, cast iron that we used melts at around 1200 c. We used a cheap china clay graphite crucible.

@@SebastianHalskov ok, thanks for the information. Do you know something about steel melting/casting? i heard about induction furnaces and tungsten crucibles
Thanks brother for helping one day before exam

Hello. I ask you very much, can you help me?!

@@Kaiserboo1871 I got silver for some of the jewellery I make; for now I cannot justify parking a lot of money in a solid cube of silver (even though I want to do it).

@@jakobhalskov Understandable. On the bright side, at least Gold is cheaper then Platinum.
Need to get some aluminum in there for your cubes

Den er på listen! Dog meget langt nede :P Cirka 1 mio kroner.. Sølv er mere overkommeligt dog, men også lidt meget at have 8-10.000 kr stående på hylden :D
