Yeah really. But there's something to be said for the roughness. The pour lines and the cavernous underbellies. I like the funkynesses of it all!
I can't get enough. It really is incredible how far you've come. All the hard work, trials and tribulations. You really have earned the respect for how easy you make everything look in your newer videos.looking forward to the kiln work BTW.
That last one just kept going and going! Love it
It's so cool watching your old videos to see how far you have come but also how others can start out. #teambigstackd4ever
Looking back on these old videos I wonder how you did not set more things on fire. I was like oh no you set the hot modal on the rug and it melted >.< LOL
Beauties! Brass has got such a manner of "folding" over itself into layers... Love the simple finish on these babies!
You and your videos have really grown, it's awesome to see and be a part of. Thanks for making these videos, been a subscriber for a while now!
Here in 2024, how far you have come!
Loving going to the beginning and watching all the vids from the start
I love the pour lines on these. Very cool!!
Gosh I wish I could have a forge, then I could make coins and bars and knifes and everything that makes me feel the happy dragon inside! You are awesome BigStackDragon!
Day one of watching, liking, and commenting on every one of your videos
Awseome to see im not the only time traveler!
I've read your replies in the comments section and you have lots of positive thoughts to share ... and I like to watch metals melt ... so I've subbed !

MAN your castings have gotten so much better! I love these old vids though- thank you!!🖐️
Pretty cool
Amazing
I feel the electric furnace does reads better, not a lot of slag? Or did you just leave that out back then? Or is the devil forge just that hot?
I have just found your video's after a late night of in pain, it's chronic and I have several of them. Enjoyable to no end and I can see how you have improved. So are you self taught? And my fiancé says "Cool socks, where did he get them?" Ok, I told her, "HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW? HE IS DOWN UNDER." lol

Yeah mate if you like that video my newer ones are a shitload better that’s for sure but as you say I’ve definitely improved over time. I’m completely self taught through trial and error not so much Error luckily and I get all my socks from either wish or my local thrift store as they get a whole heap of new ones in which just have crazy designs on. I really should ask where they get them from🤔

@@bigstackD Thanks for replying, another question, where are you? I have a mate in Perth.
I'm looking to make brass rods by melting scrap brass. Any advice on how to get then full with no pores or lines?
It's cool to watch, but I wish I knew why you do this or that, in each part - like, narration? Why do you quench the brass, for instance? Is that the word? When you put it in water?
@bigstackD
5 жыл бұрын
Sorry mateyi never talk I just keep it mind numbingly simple . I only quench my ingots for the noise it makes . If you have any questions email me on bigstackddddd@mail.com and I’ll try and answer them when I get a chance👍🏻

@@bigstackD Well, they are cool videos, anyway! Thanks!
I see you replaced the interior insulation shell of your furnace after the leaking crucible? Can you buy that insulation apart? And does the furnace go to a high enough temperature to cast copper ignots? Because I have seen vids where the copper or brass looks more liquid when casting. Keep up the work matey. Just went to Amsterdam with the train so am watching a bunch of older vids 👍🏻
@bigstackD
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah mate if you overheat the copper it will pour like water and be absolutely smooth pour. With the brass as the zinc in the brass boils at 907°C the brass doesn’t melt till sometimes 930°C So you can’t really safely overheat that or the zinc will flare off and turn to zinc oxide and that’s when you get all that floating fluffy white stuff But if you heat it just right the brass will also pour like water it’s just a fine line with the brass. That’s why sometimes when people pour the brass you’ll see that flashing and brightness on the surface of the brass that’s zinc reacting to the oxygen👍🏻. And yes this furnace can easily melt copper. You can buy all the bits and pieces for this furnace separately but they cost an arm and a leg .

Lord Sardis Cheers 👊🏻that’s exactly what I think, each ingot is unique in its own special way and I would much rather them have slight imperfections then look perfect and not handmade👌🏻😁
if you want to know how to stop the lines on the sides of your castings pre heat the mold very hot .

wtf was up with that last bar? It fizzed and hissed like it was a chemical reaction wonder why it took so much longer to cool down compared to the other two bars?
@bigstackD
6 жыл бұрын
It would have just been cause the water was super heated after cooling the other bars, the first bar went in and water was at room temp 15°C but wen the last bar went in the water would have been around 85°C so would have instantly boiled and took a shitload longer to cool😉👍🏻
I really hope you didn't do this in your bedroom - because it looks like you burnt the carpet a little bit.

ingot doesn't look like a smooth pour its all wrinkly is this normal or is it cooling too quickly
@bigstackD
7 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking it looks like that cause I'm too impatient and pour it too early plus I don't get all the crap off the top like I should. Either way ill be getting my gas furnace built soon and the bars I pour with should be a lot better as ill take my time :)
What would be the reason for top of the ingots looking like Yoda's arse?

so will the local scrap yard take the ingots as scrap ?

Not sure mate I have never tried I'm gonna wait till I have at least 100 kg before I even think about it to make it worth my while thanks for watching . If this stuff interest you check out my channel.
@willmarsden7657

Scrap yards are always tentative to take ingoted metal because who knows what is in it - tests to confirm its make-up are costly and time consuming too. Your best bet is to record and take pictures of everything that goes into an ingot, or have the tests run yourself with a certificate of authenticity to take with you. That said, ingots are bloody awesome nonetheless and can be used later! :)

How can I make long brass strips?
@ClassicalRips
4 жыл бұрын
Usually long strips of a metal are made by a ingot being rolled between large rollers that squish the metal slightly flatter and flatter each time it is run through the rollers. Eventually, the metal is squished in to a very long, thin strip

Jon Bell yes mate I have heard some scrap yards won't even accept the ingots as they can't tell if it's all brass copper or just a hunk of lead mixed with both . if your in it purely for profit your better off not melting at all just sell it as untouched scrap . Sorry for late reply this message slipped through unnoticed 👍🏻check my latest vids matey there a lot better now .
