Mizu first forged her sword out of pure hatred. To reforge it, she added every love she ever received in her life. Akemi's soul used to be so purely good that she was naive. Then she learned to manipulate people as it's a necessary evil for her survival. To be a strong person, you cannot be pure evil or pure good. You must master both sides, the demon & the angel. You need balance.

My best sequence in the show. Hearing the heart sutra as she used eveyrthing that represents who she is (good and bad) to reforge her steel was beautiful.

Exactly. His soul, his imperfections, in the sword. The pain that tempers character and steel. EPIC!

I also like how swordfather even gives her what he uses as a walking cane. As a way to say to her "i don't need it, i can handle things myself, but i still let people love me. Love doesn't make you weak"

This is THE scene that shows both Mizu and Akemi finding their inner strengths and deciding to be more than others forced them to become, poetic and beautiful and the music is just chef's kiss

Amie Doherty did not need to go this hard. Genuinely an emotional rollercoaster even just listening to this. The Harmonisation and use of texture is exquisite while the flutes melody being doubled is incredible.

Oh god.. the hints of Akemi's theme through a single loud violin on the left ear throughout this song is just chef's kiss..

This series is so new yet so rich in its history. Its soundtrack is like a fine Asian cinematic piece from 1990-2000. The melody: grand & devoted yet delicate & graceful, like a samurai’s fire to fight & struggle and their cool to maintain honor & humility. The music balances between who one should become and accepting who one is. In this current decade where more modern films & series are becoming more disappointing, Blue Eye Samurai remain the standing few that continue to deliver its brilliance, inspiration, & unforgettable memories to their audience like all the movies we loved before. This series, is truly a kind like no other.

I think the point of paralleling Mizu’s rebirth scene with Akemi’s sex scene was to convey two sides of human nature. On one hand, you have purity. On the other, you have impurity. I look at the scenes of each character here as initiations into their new ways of life. The scene had an intense “coming-of-age” tone to it, because it felt as if the two women have finally stepped into adulthood, which is symbolized by “taking control of your own lives”, which is exactly what these two characters are doing. Brilliant scene. Amazing writing.

I didn't like the sex scene interspersed with another scene of much more importance. It would have been much better if it was just Mizu's part at that moment.

@SoJung I always felt like Akemi and Mizu had parallel but opposite paths. As in Mizu at the beginning was hard but softened later on, while Akemi started out soft but hardened herself. It happens with Taigen too, where they find themselves on the opposite path. He started put wanting glory as a great swordsmen but then he just wanted to be happy with Akemi. Akemi started wanting happiness with Taigen but ended wanting power. Granted they still have the main core of themselves, like Akemi with freedom for herself and Taigen wanting to defeat Mozu for his honor, but it's changed.

After reading these comments I realized that they alternated between Mizu and Akemi's musical themes separately before finally playing them together at 2:00 - such a breathtaking soundtrack and show!
