Melt Down!!! Semi Truck Fire!! Driver Walks Away

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode, the crew tackles an arduous task.....a total meltdown.... of a semi tractor burns into the ground, quite literally, on the shoulder of the interstate. The fire crews got there in time to save the trailer, and, to our knowledge, the load, but the truck melted into the asphalt and concrete. This was quite the undertaking, thankfully, not needing an undertaker, as the driver walked away uninjured. My son, Ethan, gets to work with me on this one. We bring along our Peterbilt 389X, #11, with Miller Industries Century 1150R rotator towing and recovery unit, our Peterbilt 579 road tractor #17 with our Trail-Eze TE801 ramp ( tilt, super tilt, float) trailer, one of our rollbacks (tilt tray), our traffic control unit #16 and a lot of muscle ( arm strong) labor...and we needed every bit of it and more. Please, before anybody comments, yes we needed and attempted to get ahold of a skid steer ( tracked loader) to assist with this job, but, unfortunately, our normal contact was unavailable at that time of night/morning. We managed with what we had. Hope you enjoy!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

The only time I ever saw one like that it was a turbo seal failure that caused a runaway engine, which was literally glowing before it disintegrated and melted into the road. If it was something similar there would be time for the driver to get out, no problem. People mostly get out of fires that aren't caused by a collision. Those are very unpleasant, and Ron does not show them out of respect for the families.

I know it might not be your most important skill on paper but sir I envy your people skills with your staff. You are patient and respectful always. I hope they all realise how rare that is in a boss and I hope I can get even most of the way to that level.

I concur. I wouldn't wanna work a burn job either. There's just something eerie about things that are burned. Even if no one was injured it's still eerie.

We actually had another semi fire a couple weeks after this job that was far worse than this one. I will not show the second burn job as the driver did not survive. There was less left on that tractor than there was on this one and the trailer was also burnt. I can attach the news article here, but that is all I will post about the incident. It was bad. Thanks and God bless. www.kfvs12.com/2021/09/03/i-55-northbound-lanes-blocked-by-semi-fire/

@@RonPratt I am an airplane enthusiast but not a pilot. I guess there is no way to make fuel containers more crash proof on airplanes or semi trucks. Surely they are testing that to end these type events. Maybe they should consider burn suits like stock and other racing style suits. Idk. These types of accidents and the time frame(holiday traffic) are just not ideal.

I suggest maybe investing in your own skid steer and maybe even a small single axle dump truck for such occasions as this. A popular motto is ... "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!" Excellent work and video as always!

As always - I’m impressed. Anticipating what tools to have is a challenge. It amazes me that you either have exactly what you need or you create what you need. The motoring public doesn’t even realize how difficult and dangerous it is to work in tight, narrow spaces just to allow traffic flow. Many operators would have told the troopers that the entire roadway needed to be closed until the recovery was completed.
