You are like me, you crave one
Excellant. When I first got into melodica 5+years ago there wernt much available instructional vids for Melodica on KZread. So I finally put it down in favor of Harmonica, guitar and mandolin. I'm at performing level with those, now I'm back to conquering the Melodica again, or atleast equal to performance level of my other instruments.
oh yeah! when you play the lower notes you have a more full and resonant sound, and if you apply that to chords, you get a really nice and warm sound, pretty similar to that of the accordion, specially for the non trained ear ahahahah but good melodica players are those who can print feelings to every note they play, and those techniques you guys are teaching us here are really useful
This is something that I first noticed with the melodica: how rich and warm the lower chords sound. Makes me wish there was an instrument that loses half the the top octave for a bit more at the low end. Or a big one that isn't as insanely expensive as the hammond
Inversions change the harmonic functions of the chords. It will sound weird if you end a piece with I_64 for example.
Hey guys I am really grateful that you guys are doing this. I know that the purpose of the series is just to explain some of the aspects that are different in a melodica from other instruments. But I have no musical background and I just bought one because Augustus Pablo is my favourite artist. I am just wondering if you guys could show the different chords but actually show which keys you are pressing. I've watched many videos on KZread but most of the time they move the camera too fast or just mention the keys. I know you guys aren't doing a music tutorial but it would be eternally appreciated. If you do make the videos please repeat at least once the keys and please show the fingers going on the keys slowly the first time. Sorry for the long comment but this has been very helpful, especially with the vibrato and you also played a beautiful melody in that video. May I know what it's called?

Nathanael Moh Hey, I learn music by myself too, but I would really recommend you to learn the key names. I mean, just stick the letters on the keys with a sticker. It is really useful to know it. I can't read sheet music so I learn by hearing, so it is good to have at least the names of the keys :D

Nathanael Moh I’ve been playing alto saxophone for about 6 years but I know nothing about piano and chords and all that so I’m kind of on edge on whether or not to try it. It sounds really cool though so I don’t know what to do
Great straight to the point videos. Thanks a lot :DD. No fancy production or stupid speech. Super job!
Using chord inversion don't work if you need to do specific things. It's the same chord granted but the order matters if you're playing a song with chords in the melody
Great tip Joe. A very functional reason (the fact that the melody has a more limited range) to try out some voicings and experiment with fresh sounds
I'm really thinking about buying one... should I?

Interesting when we play piano lower chords get muddy while melodica brings out texture
@uwu-nyaa

I know this was 2 years ago but it's because melodicas have quieter overtones so they dont clash as badly at lower registers

@@mimisaiko Piano also goes lower than the melodica, as you go lower, the frequencies get closer together as you always double the frequency to go up an octave and doubling the frequency of a high note gets you further away than doubling the frequency of a low note. If you kept going lower, chords would start to sound muddy. This already seems to happen on the melodica for intervals smaller than a minor third, a chord with a major second in it sounds better if you place the minor second higher. Diminished chords also sound better higher up, more impact, a piece I was playing called for an A-minor to A-diminished movement and playing the E and E flat higher up just sounded nicer!

I don't play piano , but are the black keys all the flats and sharps while the whites are natural?
@MsKristy79
6 жыл бұрын
AROURUS FAIRYLORD Yes, and for Sharps and Flats, Sharps are going up the piano (going from the left side of the piano up) for example, The black key to the right of A is A# (A sharp). Going from the Right side of the piano going down is a Flat. so the same black key for A# could also be B-Flat since it is down from B. A little confusing, just remember, Sharp is up, Flat is down, and you should be good 👍🏻
Chord inversion!!! :)
These are great!

JJay Berthume Thanks JJay!
Low voicings are good, but sometimes it depends on context, you might just want that line cliché and not want to add more voices. I just experiment.
Well as far as voicing, certain voicings give certain harmonic effects. So inverting the chord like you showed isn't always the best option
Tell me Joe, which is the best cheap melodica to buy
Hi suggest good melodica brand and model
This boi be lookin like Jim from the office us
Super man
So this is sorta Harmonica breathing. Accordion fingers
I feel like the lower notes use a lot more air than the higher notes.
Glenn Maxwell!!!??
