"If you can't say it like that you can't sing it like that". Brilliant
Beyond Pat's excellent books these four vids are the most eye-opening and instructive lessons on songwriting I've seen.
he wasn't the first to say that. john lennon was. these are simple songwriting rules that have been diluted over the last few decades but always existed.
Mind blowing, yet so simple...
I love these vintage vids so much and I'm so glad I'm not the one sitting up in front of the whole class while trying to learn these things!
I want this girl to sing for me every day :D
Instantly better!
I'm going to go look up all the lessons you give. You're very good.
it improved so much with just some subtle changes
That was some good advice!
Wow! What an improvement.
Thanks for this
Ok so this is tricky because yes the lyrics are much more effective with the changes, but i feel like something is lost from the melody now. That high note was lovely melodically.

the awesome thing is you could still fill that melodic idea with an ooooo adlib in the background...like, "you're hiding..ooooooo...in a big raincloud"
Amazing series. BEAUTIFUL girl and voice.
Who is the vocalist? She’s awesome.
Wow that was legit
Somebody please tell me were I can find that song! :( It's been stuck in my ear all day!
:sweetjesus: beautiful lesson.
Precisely and Exactly, Allison! Do you have a CD out there somewhere ? ! I'd like to know what Allison would charge me, to most eloquently enunciate the lyrics of MY original, titled "Sometimes, I Think of Him!" Allison, I'm trying to find your last name, again, it flashed so quickly---This girl has the capabilities of a "Nora Jones'., (not saying she's a copy, saying the "tone" and "eloquence" of her delivery! ) Guitar chords are excellently executed too! Pat Pattison' explanations in this video surely made allot of sense to me, but my theory is, much (like) to the effect of Shania Twain's truth-which is, "I can't write a song if I'm not inspired " to write it. But to each his own. Seems to me that "lines /crimes" " and "mud or thud"s won't matter if the writer knows his or her own story, of how she feels about her "story" asking oneself if others might also have felt those same types of feelings, before they even reach for the pen (Sharpies are the best, right ?) … and I know from allot of verbal communications with MY other married female friends out there, that they HAVE ALL, thought of "Him" , at one time or another. This girl could easily carry the thought to fruition for me-I am not a great guitarist, but the melodies do keep arriving to me on the wings of some undeterminable wave of cyberactivity or, from some other hopefully, heavenly realm, and I've tried to catch them and add them to my "emotional stories". ALLISON, PLS CONTACT US? FredGold&LyndaFaye, the Illinois Harmony Connection. I know I have a song especially expressive of your beautifully-voiced, abilities-Whether or not you, actually do, ever "Think of Him?!" Thank You!
scrap the lyrics and start over
mojo1983 hit the nail on the head. It does make a real difference. If you don't believe me take one of your songs to BMI.
she could have said itas two seperate phrases too. "You're hiding in. In a big rain cloud."
@johnrode That sounds like a resonable conclusion, to write and lyric the melody simultaniously(Spelling?), but in practice, in reality that wouldn't work because for the most part lyrics are set to music already composed. I think if you have a beutiful melody it shouldn't be sacrificed or degraded to fit ackward lyrics. However, if someone is a complete musical and lyrical genious and can do both at the same time and get consistently great results, why not!

She picked it up SO FAST
Music therapist Ali Rapetti
she has a better voice than J Lo, Beyonce and any other over rated so called pop star!
Preferred her original idea massively
If you can't say it that way, don't sing it that way
