MELMIRA EPISODE 34 I GETTING TO KNOW PROTACTILE ASL

Are you familair with ProTactile ASL?
PTASL is not only beneficial for the DeafBlind community, EVERYONE can benefit from using PTASL.
In this interview, I chat with Jasper Norman, co-founder of ProTactile Theatre to learn more about his journey and the basic foundations of PTASL.
Psst - I had a HUGE learning moment during this interview where I practiced distantism and realized my mistake. Grateful for Jasper and Yash's patience while I unpack my sighted privilege, which I will continue to do.

I love how kneecap to kneecap helps them to establish boundaries. That’s so important with such an intimate communication style.

As a female PT user, do you ever feel uncomfortable with hand placement at times? Some signs are naturally produced in the chest area which I thought might be a bit awkward. Do you make adjustments when producing those signs or do you just work at getting comfortable with that kind of touch? Phenominal interview btw. Extremely interesting and informative. We need more of this on the east coast!

As a female nurse, all of us worked too close together for the patient to worry about our chests (male or female).

can DeafBlind people access this video? it has open captions but since there's no youtube subtitles track or transcript it's hard to imagine how it could be accessed on a braille display or something like that?

I am deaf blind and I will always stick to the original ASL sign in sign language I will not change to this no way it’s bad enough I have a learning disability on top of it rain damage and this will just make it worse so I will stick to the original ESL before this new thing came out

You can keep that pro tactile here in Florida we do not use it because here in Florida people usually the deaf blind in Tampa does not like to be touched all over especially me I just stick to the regular ASL y’all can keep the Protektor I’m deaf blind only see light perception but if anybody tried it with me I would have to tell him no way no thanks original ASL is best for me
