Thank you 8:15 that’s what I wanted to find out. My element shows 2.86 ohmes. I already cut of that cement thing (resistor) as I couldn’t get continuity beep there although led’s were working. Just learning…

Sir, The heating element is changeable ? Can we change the coil from the bottom of the Kettle.? A Kettle element shows 21 ohms in diod testing mode. is the element is ok.or not ? Please replay

as long as the kettle heating element is working, the only way you can make it work again is by replacing the thermostat switch assembly (available in ebay) and the base connection due to wear & tear, i made an adjustment and use the center pin and the ground green-yellow connection pin and the same adjustment made the grounding connection to heating element

Hi,thank you for explaing the ohms law, I worked out 230v at 3000w 13.0 amps and 240v at 250w at 10.41 amps. My kettle is 220-240v 50-60Hz 2500-3000w, So I kind of done two working outs as shown above. My kettle reading in ohms is showing 19.5 would my eliment be broken, if not would the LED light stop the connection if that has gone bad

Remember the Voltage is whatever your supplier gives you and stays relatively the same. The frequency (Hz) will never change for your country. Kettles are not precision devices. They will work in a range of conditions and at the range of efficiencies. 19Ohms should still be alright for your kettle. And no, the LED should not stop your kettle from working as it should be connected in parallel. Check the connection between the base and the kettle itself. Check your cord. Check your oulet plug, take the kettle to another room and she if it works on one of those plugs. It may be possible that your kettle is fitted with a thermal cutout device that could be reset or should be replaced. They are normally installed in the neutral line for whatever reason.

I noticed live wire some how was pinched in the base part that has the lead connected, this is showing bare wire, the connection as melted a bit and at the base of the kettle section, the two copper connectors you show one has slight burn to it,I tested every thing as you shown all seams to work, so I will rewire the mains lead and clean the black on the copper, and quickly check the cut out be for reassembling, .Thanks for info

Thanks a lot Jan Du Toit for this video , but can u please help me to fix a thermal switch which refuse to be latched " ON" when I switch it "ON" ..... the kettle boiling water fine ,but only I have to keep pressing the switch On by my finger, so how can I fix it please ?.....Also , on the same kettle type (good condition one) I did notice that the thermal switch would not be latched "ON" unless the kettle was connected to the power , so why is that please ?...... is the elect. power effects on latching mechanism any way ?

Firstly, I am not a pro repair guy, I just record what I do at home with my own stuff. And I am unfortunately not going to open my perfectly working kettle to check what I can see, so what I'm about to post is just speculation So I just tested on my kettle and you are right, it cannot latch if not connected to the base. So the kettle needs power to latch the switch to on. This tells me that it uses an electromagnet to latch the switch, just like a relay. So my assumption will be that there is a small wire running to a coil inside the switch that is broken off. Or it can be the coil of the electromagnetic switch that is broken. If we are right and it is an electromagnetic switch, this latching needs to occur between the electromagnet and something metal. So it could also be that there is a small metal plate that maybe broke off or moved in such a way that it cannot latch anymore. Either way, you are going to have to open the switch to see what is going on in there.

Thank u Jan Du Toit for reply , I think through this presentation in this video u are good enough to overcome any possible trouble in these kind of appliances. I have already dismantled the kettle and I found it exactly the same with the one u have in this video . I have no idea about the principal of working of the thermal switch on it and I am sure there is no like a relay involved in the electric circuit of the switch and this makes me seeking for some advice to understand theory of operation then it may help me to fix the problem.

From now on I only buy kettles with the option for extended warranty. If they don't have confidence in the quality of their products, nor do I.

all kettles whether cheap or expensive seem to share the same/similar parts, all made in China. my conclusion is therefore; buy the cheapest kettle on the market.
