Melisandra is most probably from hardhome. There is strong evidence that hardhome was attacked by Valryians and she has visions of a child called "Melony" in her pov chapter so it's safe to say that she's probably a wildling which is why her magic is stronger than Thorros(of course other factors may apply)

Undead fire Wight! I never thought of that or heard of that before thats really something to think about. But she doesn't behave like the ice wights she's completely lucid and seems to have held on to her humanity. The ice ones seem just like killing machines of flesh.... but maybe that's just because we only see them in battle?

We actualy saw the wights standing still doing nothing as long as the Other who ressurected them didn't order them (when Sam saw them) . But then we saw the wight who was taken to King s landing acting lkke an animal .... It doesn't make alot of sense ; but i guess that s the Tv show adaptation fault.

One of the coolest characters in my opinion. It would be awesome to see her in HotD since she’d be alive around that time

The woman who play the role in the series is a famous actress from the Netherlands its kind of weird for someone so well know for Dutch movies to be in a big show/movie from the United States the only Dutch actor similar is Rutger Hauer

Well, maybe she is 'famous in the netherlands' because we only have a few decent actors. Also, her fame is from days well on the past. Ask dutch people to mention any of her films, they might mention 'zwartboek' maybe some know 'valkyrie' and that's about it. I didn't find her particularly good in GoT. Any actrice could have played it.

She was 400 years old in GOT and at the time of dance she was 220+ years old

I read a theory that actually Melisandre can be Alys Rivers. That would be interest to see.

The narrative purpose for her age is to tell something important about the past, something that she has experienced first hand. It's going to be a massive revelation that will blow people's minds, so what is it exactly? Maybe the red priesthood was originally created to ensure and oversee the purity of the Valyrian blood. After the creation of the first firebloods that ended the Long Night and resulted in the creation of the Valyrian Freehold far away from the greenseers sight, Valyrian blood became highly valued. To maintain and oversee the purity of the firebloods they created a priesthood. Maybe Melisandre knows this.

That's not really a specific character that we see regularly or even have names for. We barely get a decent look at them, and they seem more like random fae-type creatures just in the background, instead of characters in themselves. Doubt they really even count to be honest.

I wish they didn’t completely toss out her shadowbinding abilities after Renly’s death on the show. It’s literally the only time we see her do something like that, even though it’s what she trained for years to perfect.

Maybe I missed it... But in the books her age or her history is not mentioned... And she is not that good a reading the flames, she interpreted incorrectly a couples of times and the sword given to Stannis is not even hot.

Her history is in her POV chapter in A Dance of Dragons. Although her exact age is unknown, the numbers people come up with stem from different theories, but pretty much all agree she is way older than she looks.

Yes, correct! Leaf, who Bran sees in a vision helping the other children of the forest create a blade of cursed dragonglass and then plunging it into the chest of one of the First Men, thus creating the Night King, IS the oldest living character. He is 10,000 years old and Leaf is older than THAT.

Alys was not a follower of Rh'llor as far as we know, she could see visions in flames yes, but also in clouds and water. And being able to see visions and the likely magic she practices when killing the messenger does not make her a follower of Rh'llor either, just makes us know she uses magic. Her actual believes are unknown and House Strong, which she is likely related to are decendents of the first men, so it's probably the magic of the old gods she uses. That aside we do have Melisandres POV in the books, you'd think she would at least allure to being Alys in any way, especially given her prophecies and that's not the case.

I have to say, I like the low key magic system from GOT way more than the usual high fantasy stuff from the likes of Dungeons and Dragons. It's powerful, but heavily restrictive and comes with terrible consequences, it's not overly flashy or based on visual effects, but more subtle in it's appearance. Classic Sword & Sorcery magic, like Conan...

Can someone answer this, I never read GOT books. In the show, she takes off her ruby necklace and we see her become very old. BUT in another scene. She's taking a bath when, Sleyse Baratheon walks in. Again, Melisandre is not wearing her necklace, but looks young. Why is this???

In the books she wears a ruby necklace that glows and burns and it does have magical properties (she drinks poison and is fine, but the necklaces glows, she disguises Rattleshirt to look like Mance) but she is never seen without it. It is theorized, but not yet confirmed that the necklace also works as a glamor to make her look younger. In the show they screwed up, simple as that. They made the bath scene without having planned on making her old and only appearing young via necklace.

ASOIAF starts in 298 After Conquest. She'd have to be over 300 years old to witness Aegon and even then she was sold as a child to the temple, which we know from her POV chapter and then she studied there for a very long time. So she'd have to be far older than that to witness Aegon herself outside from hearing about him.

I could not find a single official source stating that Melisandre will appear in season 2, only fan speculations. Alys Rivers is confirmed for season 2, alongside Cregan and Daeron.

I will never forgive her for convincing that idiot to sacrifice his Precious little girl For Nothing because surely they were All Doomed after that..
