Perception is an odd thing. I remember it like it was only 45 1/2 years ago.

1975, married, first child on the way. Plenty of work. Never locked our house or car. Times were better, safer and happier. Oh, and the music was great and the women were real. I could still look, just didn't want to touch.

Oh how simple and uncomplicated life was then.🙄

1975...yes, it feels so free. Reality was different, i am sure. 20% inflation in 1975. Kinda sketchy in the city and on trains at night. Dog shit all over the nature strip. People smoking everywhere. But...we could dream. No internet 'mistakes'... one could change themselves and dream of more. Start all over again each day. Nowadays, kids are filmed and on Facebook from birth...

I was a 12yo Sharpie living in Richmond. Kids walked themselves and so did dogs, we both came home when hungry.

It was still a great city then and a great place to grow up - not anymore though

I was 13 back then. Notice no bike helmets, didn't need them. Left Vic. 30 years ago. Grew up in Noble Park. Went back there for a visit a few years back. Felt like a foreigner. Spoke to a hippy shopkeeper been there a long time. Said English is a third language there

A few OF OUR BELOVED FOSSILS, in it. HOLDEN CARS, @1.01. My 1st car, EH station wagon, but mine was a sedan, paid $250 bucks for it, in 1976 from original owner. High-capacity engine, & 6months later, I found $250 bucks, (same as I paid for it!), under the front floor mat. 2nd one, dunno what model it IS/not was, but my friend's family had a black one, it was stolen. They had it returned, as it was!.I know Black-haired Detective, from Div. 4, Gerard Kennedy, who, some of his mates invited him, to one of their parties. When Gerard Kennedy knocked on their front door to go into the party, one of the guests opened the door, Thought it was The Detectives( forgetting Div.4 was just a TV show) they freaked out, n, flushed all their "STUFF" down the 'Dunny! Ha Ha.

I’ve never understood the point of an undercover valiant cop car only to have a painfully obvious siren on the bonnet that could’ve been hidden underneath the engine bay

We got caught on a factory roof trying to catch pidgeons when we were kids , cops said get down and got our names then did a massive burnout in their V8 Valiant and took off 100 mph up the road . Seems like they got a important call, lucky for us.

Thanks Gezza for the nostalgic footage. Noted a brief view of St Mary's church, West Melbourne, where we were married in 1985. Just a short walk from the Vic Market.

The change came when Carbon Fibre bikes came along making them much lighter and capable of higher speeds. This encouraged the 'Lycra Set' to ride quite quickly along suburban streets when cars backed out of their driveway (for example) riders would often find themselves over the bonnet. You've got to remember - the car rules in this car obsessed country.

Bloke next door was Barney, and back around 1975 when I was 11 me and the kids in the street drove the poor bugger mad yelling Barney Banana 10c all day long on school holidays just so he would come out and squirt us with the hose. Dont remember them as 6c must be before my time.

I was going to school with Terry Donovan’s son in 1975 at Malvern central school. Back when Jason had a page boy hair cut lol.

@@jamesfrench7299 true ,old cars would've lasted forever if they rust proofed them , biggest problem was every manufacturer used caulking compound to seal the windsceens. That crap dries up and shrinks then water leaks and rusts the car out . Frontends are ok it's the wheel alignment clowns that have no idea . Have to find someone who actually does their job instead of taking your money.

@@petergoodwin2465 Saw abandoned VJs and VH bodies without a skerrick of rust around the windscreen, but loads of CLs and CMs at wrecking yards as well as on the roads with the plenum and windscreen surrounds chewed out. I was told the "rot" set in with the VK. Must have been the quality of steel or thinner steel used or processes at the factory failed. One guy claimed to me some equipment to do with body treatment broke down at the plant which they never fixed. A wheel alignment shop guy told me they are hard to do an alignment on. A lot of them are crooks. Same problem goes on in USA, probably because shonky work isn't immediately apparent. They deserve all the karma they get.

@@jamesfrench7299 that's something mate ,true I haven't seen the windscreen channel rust as bad on a Vh, Vj . Mates Vj charger was rebuilt 25 years ago and it's perfect still but I used silicon, had no rust In the channel. My Cl had no channel at around the same time. Easy to make with a shrinker stretcher, I'm doing a 67 impala channel soon. Was going to be $2000 with post for the parts from America, I'll just make it myself, just time and labour. Think you are right mate, they changed something at the factory.

The old telephone box. I remember when we used to block them up with a piece of paper and come back 4 hrs later with a paddle pop stick and get $5 out of them. I know bad shit but we were very young and very poor. The good innocent old day's when people said hello.

Had a few FX & FJ Holdens back in the 60’s when you could buy a reasonable example for one or two hundred bucks, I notice the FX has 13” widies this was a popular mod as it lowered the car a bit as well and you could get better tyres than the 15’s there was two ways you could do it the better way was to use the front suspension and rear axle out of a later FC,FE,FC,FB,EK onwards or if you had the dough a ball joint front end from an HR the other way was to cut out the original wheel centres and weld them into the 13” rims thus way you could use the original suspension and axle I did these mods on my old Holdens as well as other” Go faster” bits and pieces, good days indeed!

Love the dog @ 0:05. I remember many dogs loose in that time. The downside being the crap you'd have to wash off your shoes every so often.

In 1970's Aussie TV, nudity had just become allowed so they used to put a scene in just about every 'after 8:30' show for a time.
